Where the game was won or lost?
We started off slow in the very windy conditions with only a 3 goal lead at quarter time. Our drives were almost non-existent and our decision making was poor in the wind. We needed to keep the ball flat and had strong drives to the player with the ball. Our second quarter and third quarter were our best quarters with accuracy from the goalers in the second quarter pushing the lead out further. Our drives down the court were much better and feeds into the gaolers were efficient. Defensively we had a solid game with multiple intercept coming mainly from our GK, GD and WD. Overall a good game under windy conditions.
Quarters that stood out:
Slow start to the game which improved in the second quarter. Our drives weren’t there and our decision making was poor in the wind. We needed to keep the ball flat and had strong drives to the player with the ball. Our second quarter and third quarter were our best quarters with accuracy from the goalers in the second quarter pushing the lead out further. Third quarter we kept our turnovers to a very low 2. Solid game.

It was our first game in wet conditions and everyone seemed to play it safe. However, there were no drives as we were afraid to take our feet though in case we fell. In these types of games we need to trust ourselves and our bodies to not fall over in the wet and run as fast as we can and drive to the ball. I understand multiple people have had injuries that they are mindful of but we need to play it like any other game. Drives needed work and feeds into the circe improved over the course of the game. Defensive pressure was excellent, especially from the circle defenders and the accuracy from the gaolers was excellent considering wet conditions. Overall, we could have done better but we came away with a win.
Our second quarter was probably our best. Our turnovers were kept to 7 and we had 12 recoveries. Goalers were very accurate, both shooting at 100% this quarter. We also scored the most goals this quarter with 9, which indicates a strong defensive effort and good feeds into gaolers. Our last quarter was our worst as wooded matched our score 6-6 in this quarter. Our defensive pressure dropped off, which cannot happen against the stronger teams.

We won the game with great service to our goalers. The first quarter set us up with strong team defense from everyone on the court. Not one player on court wasn’t responsible for a recovery. Our second quarter we cleaned up our passes and actually released the ball to a lead. We reduced the turnovers to just the 3 and this allowed us more ball to deliver into the goalers. We were tight on defense but were called for contacts only due to the wet court and slow recovery. Feeds and assists were high, particularly from our mid court and the goalers delivered.
Our 3rd quarter stands out because this is when we started correcting the mistakes of the first half. With changes to our lineup, Alex took the court in GK, Sharna moved back to GD, Cassy moved from C to WD, Demi moved from WA to C, Bianca rejoined the team in WA and our goalers were the only 2 players that remained in their position. We cut our turnovers in half to just 5, we cleaned up our defense with only 5 contacts and they all came out our attackers and most of our recoveries came from full court pressure meaning they were gains and not clean intercepts. Goalers had several opportunities with 22 attempts at goals and although we missed 8, we were still dominating all over the court.
Significant goal runs:
Q1: The game started with one each and then we shot 3 in a row. It went goal for goal until we shot the last 3 goals of the quarter.
Q2: We got off to a good start with the first 3 goals and then another 3 and then another 3. It went goal for goal for 3 goals until we shot 2 in a row and then the last 3 for the quarter.
Q3: We got the first run with 2 goals before 5 singles were shot. We then shot 2 in a row and then a large 6 goals, we finished with the last 2.
Q4: we shot the first 2 goals and then the next 9. We let it slip towards the end and let Woodened have 3 goals before we shot the last goal of the game.

Ash: Great offloads and service to Georgia. You were exceptionally fast and played with your brain too.
Georgia: Once you were given notice, you came out firing with 12 from 13 attempts and 2 rebounds.
Bianca: Solid feeds to our goalers, opening up the play and giving our goalers plenty of service.
Demi: 3 turnovers for the game. A great improvement from last week’s game. You protected your ball and played smarted.
Maddi: Solid first quarter with 2 tips, 2 gains, 2 intercepts and a rebound. Well done.
Jessica: Footwork in the 3rd quarter and changing your defense gave you 6 clean recoveries with 2 gains, 2 intercepts and 2 rebounds.
Kaz: Your presence shut the GS down and stopped an easy pass into a potential weapon. Shutting her down early put doubt in her mind and assisted A grade as her confidence was down from all your hard work.
Cass: In the last quarter you came on firing. 4 deflections, 2 gains and an intercept. You also played a passive center which is what we are working on.
Taylah: You started slow and then you read the play well with 2 gains, 2 intercepts and 2 rebounds. In the last quarter you stopped their attack from penetrating their ring. Although heavily penalized for contacts you deflected 3 balls, intercepted 1 and received a gain.

We have not played Woodend before
with 7 rebounds
We played a solid 60 minutes of netball with full court defense and strong attack. We minimized our turnovers and kept them as low as possible and for the most part achieved our shooting goals while keeping them under 7 for 3 quarters of the game.
Statistically every quarter tells the same story. Defensively our team was at its strongest in the last quarter where we kept Woodend to 1 goal from 5 attempts and every player who took the court got a recovery. Chloe recovered 3 rebounds, Ciara 2 intercepts, Chelsea and intercept, Caitlyn a gain, Karlee and intercept, Maddy 1 gain, Dels 1 gain, Ty a gain and an intercept, Katie 2 intercepts and Janelle 3 gains, 3 intercepts and a rebound.
Q1: Woodend shot the first goal before we took control with 4 in a row. Woodend then shot their only 2 goal run for the game before we had a run of 3, then 2 singles and then 5 in a row through sharing the shots. Then we shot the last 4 goals.
Q2: Woodend shot the first goal of the quarter before we shot 5, then 7, then a sneaky single and finished with a 5 goal run.
Q3: We shot the first 3, then another 3 and then another 9. Goal 52 sat by itself before we shot 6. Woodend shot the last goal of the quarter.
Q4: Woodend got their first and only goal of the last quarter. We shot the next 20 goals to finish the game clear winners.

We played pretty well considering the windy conditions. Goaling accuracy wasn’t our best but we’ll put that down to the wind. we managed to get ourselves in front and gaoler managed to get the ball close to the ring. Turnovers were kept to a minimum with only one turnover in the final quarter. Our turnovers were mostly babd passes with only two not being bad passes. Our main issue in this game was decision- making. We looked at one player only and expected them to get the ball when others were free. we seemed to not have any peripheral vision in this game which is something we need to work on at training. Otherwise it was a pretty solid game considering the conditions.
We started off strong with a 10-2. In our previous games our start has always been our worst so it was great to see us come out of the gates strong and set the tone for the entire game. Our last quarter was probably our best because our turnover count was kept to just 1 turnover which if we keep this up we will be unstoppable. Overall I thought all four quarters were solid. We just need to work on our decision making and passing the correct pass to the correct player.

Last time we played them 15 – 16 – 12 – 25
We won the game with extremely strong defense, spoiling the ball 50 times for Rockbank and because our volume was significantly higher, even with the 21 misses we made Rockbank pay.
Q1: We shot the first goal for the game which is always pleasing. Then we shot 2 goals in a row. It went goal for goal until Rockbank shot 2. We then shot the last 3 and had a comfortable lead of 3 goals.
Q2: We had the first run of 2 goals before a few singles an then a 2 goal run for Rockbank. We had a good 5 goal run followed by 2. Rockbank shot the last 2 staying close enough with Macedon only having a 5 goal lead. 17 -12.
Q3: We fired off the first 3 goals, then Rockbank stole 2 back. We then went on to dominate with the next 10. 30 -14.
Q4: Rockbank were not lying down and shot the first 2, then the next 3. We each had 2 singles each before we shot 5 goals. There were 2 singles before we had one more crack at it, with 2 in a row. Each team shot one each to finish the game. 42- 23.

Ash: you are getting really good and listening to feedback and putting in straight into action. For the amount of ball you had, you threw away very little (outside shooting).
Georgia: 46 attempts at goal means that you put yourself in a good goaling position at least 46 times. That’s great. However conversation needs to be improved on.
Demi: putting the first ½ aside your second half was great. 3 turnovers compared to your 6 in the first half was a great improvement in your game. You drove at the right time in C and made sure that you connected with Bianca at the right time and in the right place.
Bianca: When you came back on into a more familiar position in WA your game improved significantly. You were sharper at the ball on the center passes and dominant on the feeds. A solid 2nd half.
Sharna: Your position in a more familiar GD got you the recoveries that were needed to have a few more opportunities for us to score. Instantly you took 3 rebounds in the 3rd and a gain. You looked a little lost when driving the ball down court and held a little too long on the ring.
Jess: Started flat footed chasing and not dictating. The last quarter was so much stronger with a tired GA and a very fresh GD. 2 rebounds, 3 intercepts a tip and a gain. 6 more opportunities you provided for our goalers.
Cassy: You are doing a great job playing B grade. When you take the court you bring a presence and determination that the team needs. 2 gains, 2 intercepts and a deflection playing the mid court show quality defense and then when transitioning into attack you listened and tried to stay wide until you were needed.
Alex: Welcome to B grade. Straight away you had an impact on the game with 3 gains, 2 intercepts and a rebound. You looked after most of your possessions only giving up 1 ball and because of Jess’ work in GD in the last quarter you didn’t really get a chance to be involved in the game.
Taylah: When you came on in the 2nd quarter you repeated Jess’ mistakes in GD but by the last quarter you got more involved in the game with 2 gains and 2 tips. A much stronger performance keeping the WA to just 2 feeds.
Kaz: your ½ a game was pre planned and was not a result of performance. You read the play well and mixed it up by the 2nd quarter with pressure over the mid feed into the goalers. Your first 12 minutes had 2 tips, 2 gains, 2 intercepts and 2 rebounds. You backed it up in the 2nd with 1 gain, 2 intercepts and 3 rebounds. Solid performance.

Thankfully this is a game where we did win, so I am reporting where we won the game. Our full court defensive pressure and accurate goaling won the game for us. With only one missed shot in the last quarter compared to the average of 4 in the previous quarter, we were able to finish the job off.
Whole court pressure gave us 6 intercepts, 3 gains and 7 deflections, slowing Rockbank up. Every player but 1 had a recovery but those recoveries came from full court pressure from our GS down to our GK.
The first quarter stands out because Rockbank started with a 4 -0 lead on us before we broke back with 4 goals on the board. It also stands out due to the very low score and dismal shooting (8 misses) and 7 turnovers from our C, WA, GA and GS. Our defenders took on the load fighting back and getting us 10 recoveries, keeping us in the game.
Volume was better in the 2nd quarter with 16 attempts and 13 converted goals and the errors from the attackers was reduced significantly. Defensive pressure wasn’t as strong but we rebounded 2 of the 4 missed shots. Rockbank were kept reasonably quiet and we had shot 8 goals before they has 2 on the board but we let them back in with a 5 goal run.
We lost the 3rd quarter by 3. Our GA gave away 4 turnovers and 4 missed goals and Chelsea in WA gave an easy center away with a break. Our attackers were coughing up the ball and making forced mistakes. We were highly penalized in defense with 13 contacts and the intercept count was down to just 3, our recoveries came from gains (5). We played around with the ball too much with feeds and increased the pressure with little reward.
The last quarter was our best with a 14 to 9 win giving us the buffer in the final minutes. Turnovers continued to come from the attackers (5) and almost all center passes taken from our GA. Feeds and assists were reduced but more valuable. Goalers rewarded this work with only 1 missed goal. Defensive pressure was at its strongest with 7 deflections, 3 gains and 6 intercepts and contacts were reduced with just the 7. Clean patient work got us over the line.
Q1: they shot the first 4 and then we shot the next 4. Single goals to finish the quarter.
Q2: we scored the first 2 and then another 6. Rockbank responded with 5 before 2 singles were put on the board. We then shot the last 4 of the quarter and the score was 20- 14.
Q3: We shot the first 3 goals and then Rockbank the next 2. We score a single before Rockbank made us pay with 5 goals straight and then another 3. 2 singles followed before we shot 3 goals. We had a 4 goal lead and Rockbank had won the quarter.
Q4: The first 4 goals were singles and then Rockbank shot 3 in a row. We were up by 2, 32- 30. A 5 goal run for us gave us a bit of breathing room 36 – 30. They shot a goal, we shot 2, they shot 2, we shot 3 and one more a piece gave us an 8 goal win. Thank God.

Chloe: 10 turnovers and 14 missed goals tells me that you need to be making smarter decisions with what you do with the ball and we need to work out if it’s the defensive pressure causing this or how the movement is around the ball. You fought back hard following the shots up with 7 rebounds and cleaning up the goaling with 90% shooting in the last quarter.
Chelsea: Mixing up how you drive out for a center passes and knowing when to keep your opposition busy is a skill you are slowly learning. The last quarter you did that and the movement off the ring was much smarter and opened up the play for the players around you and yourself. 3 recoveries for the team with quality defense
Karlee: Center passes have become the sticking point for you this season and we need to practice plays and your delivery to ensure that we don’t waste those balls. 4 strong recoveries for the team. Excellent work around the circle edge, practicing the work we did on Wednesday.
Briarley: you had a strong first quarter with 2 gains, 2 intercepts and a deflection. You read the play well and forced the WA to throw balls that players behind you could work with. The WA adjusted in the 2nd and you had just the one intercept, being kept a little quieter. Adjusting your game quicker and having a different strategy in the second quarter would make you more lethal. Excellent work around the circle edge, practicing the work we did on Wednesday.
Maddy: You came on very strong with a rebound, intercept, gain and deflection. Because of you, the main feeder became the GA in the 3rd quarter. Good attacking drives and blocking moves of the WA keeping her quiet in the last quarter even though your recoveries were kept to just the one in the last quarter.
Ty: 8 recoveries today which is down by about 4 however the umpiring at times took clean balls away from your defensive pressure. Drives through our attacking end need a little work, knowing when and where to drive and how to transition the ball through the mid court.
Karyn: The third quarter stint was decent and you forced some passes wide, unfortunately once the ball found the taller GS you were penalized for 3 contacts and the shooter made us pay, goaling 8 from 10 attempts.
Katie: When you were hot, you were hot and when they went over your head you were cold. 7 intercepts, 4 gains and 3 rebounds isn’t a bad day at the office and considering there was a run out in GD too. Some of your recovery work was undone with poor decision making with the next pass and Rockbank converted from the misthrows.
Demi: Although a brief stint on the court it was a solid 3 minutes of play. Most importantly you didn’t turnover any ball and had a deflection and an intercept. Nice work.
12 - 7- 7
We won the game because we started really strong and deprived Melton of ball through our solid defensive pressure of 10 recoveries.
The second quarter stands out because of our low scoring (7), our high turnovers (9)and massive recoveries (12). Our goalers lost 5 balls with a step, 2 contacts, 1 replay and a bad pass, topped off with 4 bad passes through our mid court.
Q1: We shot the first goal and then 7 in a row, Melton got their 2nd goal on the board and we then kept running with another 3. Melton had their first run with the last 2 goals of the quarter.
Q2: The first 3 shots were singles and then we shot 2 in a row and then another 3. Melton finished with the last 2.
Q3: We had a good start to the 3rd with the first 3 goals and then another 2. Melton put goal 2 and 3 on the board and then the next 3 goals. We shot the last for a sad quarter.
Q4: Both teams with a single and then we had the first 2 goal run. We then went on to shoot the next 6 goals and then another 2.

Ash: great movement and great feeding and providing shooting opportunities for G.
Georgia: Several opportunities were there with 40 attempts at goals. You need to value the ball more and reduce your turnovers.
Demi: solid center passes receives and then backing it up with feeds and assists. Well placed positioning on the circle edge and created a high volume for our goalers.
Bianca: the first half you threw away 4 balls with skill errors in the pass and you came on and corrected this in the second half with 0 turnovers.
Cassy: you were nice and clean in the first quarter and in the second you worked your player out and came through with the recoveries, 1 gain and 2 intercepts. You work yourself into the game and take your player out of the game.
Jess: great game where you dominated in the first 5 minutes. 3 intercepts off the bat, followed by 3 recoveries every quarter. That solid defense where you read the play really well.
Kaz: You worked out how weak the GS was and made sure that Melton paid for sloppy work.7 gains, 4 intercepts, 3 rebounds and 4 deflections. You didn’t waste this ball and threw away nothing.

A solid 2nd half won us the game. Everything improved from turnovers, defensive calls against us, recoveries, goal conversion and direct assists.
The last quarter stood out because all our turnovers came form our attacking end. Chloe responsible for 5, Ciara 1 and Chelsea the other 1. Although volume and possession was very high for the attackers, at times poor choices resulted in lost ball. On a positive our full court defense is/ was amazing. Every player but Ciara back in GS got a recovery for the team. Chloe a gain and rebound, Chelsea an intercept, Karlee an intercept, Dels 2 gains and a intercept, Janelle 2 intercepts and a gain and Katie 2 gains.
Q1: We got off to a great start with the first 3 goals and then it went goal for goal for most of the quarter until we had a quick 2 and then the last 3 of the quarter.

Chloe: excellent volume of goals and recovery rebounds of 2 bringing your goaling to 25/ 31 attempts. Need to work on decision making with 12 turnovers.
Chelsea: you hit circle edge and fed the ball in well on most occasions to our goalers. A fumble, step, bad pass and replay in 20 minutes of the game indicate that you were forced into these errors by your opposition.
Caitlyn: 7 turnovers for ¾ of a game and I don’t believe the pressure forced these turnovers. We need to make sure that players running for ball are moving sharp enough and that our position around the ring is strong. You dominated feeds in 2 quarters of the game.
Karlee: the first quarter you doubted the lead and held the ball too long causing a held ball and a bad pass. You struggled to find the right drive with Chelsea and this created crowding. When you returned to the court in the 3rd you fixed your timing and grew stronger in defense with 2 intercepts.
Maddy: statistically you didn’t get much ball at all but what you did do was keep your WA off the circle and deprived her of ball. She fed in just 4 passes while you were on the court.
Janelle: solid defensive performance. 12 recoveries and strong one on one defense shut down a potentially game making player like Bec.
Katie: you mopped up with 22 recoveries for the team. That’s massive. One on ne defense meant that the less experienced shooter wasn’t allowed in the game and very much deprived of opportunity.
Dels: you came on as an impact players and recovered 4 immediate balls in the 3nd and 3 in the 4th. The long stretch forced bad passes over your head and the girls behind you cleaned up.

We had a very strong defensive game in the mid court and defence ends throughout the whole game. Goalers were effective, did well in the windy conditions and got many rebounds. Feeding from the circle edge was weak in the 1st quarter but got better as the game progressed, allowing us to have a great 37 goal win.
Q1 – 7
Q2 – 9
Q3 – 6
Q4 – 11
Positive to be taken from the game:
Although the conditions were windy our passing was very effective throughout the game, apart from some rushed passes due to stepping on and a few bad feeds into the goal ring.
Goalers were good in the ring with 85% effectiveness, getting 24 rebounds/gains in our goal circle from missed goals or tips.
Defenders and mid – court were strong in defence throughout the whole game, with a total of 30 clean intercepts and circle defenders getting 15 intercepts from their attacking end.
Area for improvement:
There were 14 bad feeds for the whole game and although 7 of those were in the first quarter we need to work on relying on each player to play their role. Each player needs to do their job and not rely on one or two players to get every second ball.
We need to work on our awareness of others on the court. There were many times when players cut off other good leads. We need to make sure that we are mindful of what others are doing and that we are timing our leads right and opening up the court to allow good strong leads to get the ball down to our attacking end or out of defence.

We had a strong defensive game, which set us up well from the start with 14 recoveries in the first quarter. With a new goaling set-up the goalers struggled with some goal misses escaping the circle throughout the game, however with strong defence these balls were brought back down to our attacking end continuously, allowing us to maintain the lead for the whole game.
Q1 – 6
Q2 – 4
Q3 – 5
Q4 – 5
Continuous strong defensive pressure from defence and centre court throughout the game forced Romsey to make errors and allowing us to make a significant amount of recoveries (54 for the game) making up for the missed goals, with 14 recoveries in the 1st quarter, 15 in the 2nd and 3rd and 10 in the last quarter.
We need to work on our full court defensive pressure from the attacking end and working on our goalers and other attackers continuing to defend down the court to stop the ball from getting out of our attacking end. Although it did not matter as much this week because Romsey were not that strong, against better teams this will be very important.
Passing was average with 19 bad passes for the whole game. We need to work on timing of leads and getting passes to the right place at the right time and play smarter not harder.
Defenders were strong but need to work on communication and movement of their feet, also coming through to intercept the ball with both hands.
Goalers need to practice their shooting to minimise the chance of opposition turnovers. We also need to make sure that we are getting as many rebounds as possible and communicating with fellow goalers and circle feeders to ensure we are efficient and getting goals when the ball is down our end.

This was a very messy game by everyone. It was two undefeated teams going head to head for top spot on the ladder. We started off very slow and were down by 4 by the end of the first quarter. We got bet-ter as the game went on but it was not an indication of how we have been playing the last few weeks.
Our drives were stagnant and one speed. Our decision making was poor. And we were off balance due to constant stepping on. We were very lucky that Melton’s accuracy was low because they had one more attempt at goal than we did, we just converted better. Credit to the defenders who were able to rebound their missed shots so that attackers could have another attempt at goal. This is not a game that we should be proud of as we are a much better team and are capable of displaying much better netball then we put out on the court in this game.
We fought back in the second quarter to draw the game after trailing the first quarter by 4. The 2nd quarter was our highest scoring quarter and best quarter of the game. Our turnovers were kept to a minimum for the game, however, our contacts and obstructions were almost double what they have been in previous games. This shows that we need to adjust to the umpires calls. Overall this game was not our best and we know what we need to work on and our warm up needs to be better as it shows on court.

We lost the game with the excessive amount of turnovers. In the first quarter there was a fumble, held and a step on top of the 7 bad passes. After the first quarter the errors were all bad passes, all 23 of them. Romsey missed 16 goals and we rebounded 7 of those and gave them 9 attempts back at goals.
The second quarter stands out because of the very low goal count of 3. We struggled to get the ball through the center third even with the 8 recoveries from our defensive players. We kept their goalers reasonably quiet throwing off their goaling percentage shooting 9 from the 13 attempts.
Our last quarter we surprised ourselves with a real come back. Our turnovers were at their lowest and our center passes increased. The result of this was an increased in goaling volume. We put up 15 goals and converted 11 to Romsey’s 6.
Q1: they shot the first 2, then we put 3 on the board. After a few goals Romsey shot 3 more, it went goal for goal and the score was 6-7 before Romsey shot 3 more giving them a 6 -10 lead before we shot the last goal of the quarter.
Q2: we shot the first goal and Romsey punished us with 5 in a row. We put goal 2 and 3 on the board for the quarter as Romsey racked up another 4. 10 -19.
Q3: Romsey brought it out with 2 more before 2 singles went on the board. We finally put 3 on the board (the total of the whole 2nd quarter) Romsey shot 3 more and then another 2. We were still trailing by 10.
Q4: we finally came out firing with 3 on the board and then a few singles were scored. Romsey shot 2 and then another 2. We put 3 on the board and brought the score back 25 -32 before we shot another 3 losing the game by 5.

Georgia: Your drives were solid out of the ring but your goaling percentage was not high enough.
Ash: Your volume has to increase to take some of the load, but you are really developing your offloads.
Amy: solid sooting particularly in last quarter. 13 shots in ½ a game is a good total.
Demi: Solid feeds of 6+ but we need to turn them into assists, placing the goalers in a better shooting position.
Maddi: You placed yourself well on the circle edge in the first quarter with 4 assists but you were out muscled in the 2nd quarter with no feeds or assists.
Red: 5 recoveries for 3 quarters is decent and the WA wasn’t a dominant feeder.
Taylah: footwork, footwork, footwork! You came on in the last quarter and played a solid quarter on an experienced GK taking 3 intercepts and a rebound.
Karyn: 9 recoveries = 5 gains, 3 intercepts and a rebound. You kept Hope quiet but didn’t get the better rebounding position.
Jess: 13 recoveries for the game with strong defence in GD doing all you needed to do to hep our attackers recover lost balls.
Cassy: Congrats on your first game in B grade for 2018. Solid feeds with 7 in the first quarter and 5 in the last.

It was won because we were the team who was the most rewarded from solid, aggressive defensive pressure.
Our 3rd quarter stood out as we kept Romsey to just the 4 goals and we tripled them with 12. This set us up for a shit fight in the last quarter. In the 3rd quarter we only threw away 6 balls compared to the 9 in the second. All 6 errors came from bad passes, unlike the 2nd where we had 5 held balls (?) a break, a fumble, a replay, and just the one bad pass. Our center passes were also shared with our defensive players and we were starting to get creative. Defensively we got more defensive ball through our mid court, stopping their movement in their goal third. 2 intercepts from Ciara, 1 from Chelsea and 1 from Karlee. The work in WD and GD slowed up the ball and Katie pounced with 5 gains, 2 intercepts and 2 rebounds. Feeds and assists were direct and with ball movement moved the ball to the top of the ring giving us good position to shoot a goal under 2 foot defensive pressure. Although we missed 5 shots, we still rebounded 1 to blow their 50% shooting out of the water.
Q1: Romsey scored the first 2 goals before we switched on with 3, then we broke them for another 3. Romsey scored 3 before a goal for goal contest until the siren.
Q2: Romsey got off to a good start with 3 in a row before 2 singles were scored and we were down 1.We had a whopping 7 goal run before they shot the last 2 brining the lead out to 2, 18- 16.
Q3: they scored off their center and we then broke them for 2 in a row. An 8 goal run, then 3 bagged us a great lead of 10 heading into the last.
Q4: They got the first 2 goal run followed by 4 from us. They literally fought for the next 3 goals and then another 3 before singles were put on the board. Romsey shot the last 2 to stay within reach and make a more respectable score for them.

Chloe: When we were moving fast out front the ring and movement around the ring opened up.
Ash: Great composure to play on a high level player like the GK and still beat her and shoot well.
Chelsea: One of the best games you have played this year. You committed to the drive and worked the ball to the top for a quality pass in.
Karlee: you’re back! Solid defensive pressure getting the recoveries yourself and creating gains behind. 3 recoveries in the first quarter.
Maddy: Perfectly matched against Kayleigh. 4 gains from putting her under pressure and picking up the scraps.
Katie: 20 recoveries to your name. Wow!
Kaz: Solid goal ring work with Katie, stalling the easy pass in.
Janelle: great hustle. 6 recoveries in your first quarter on the court.
Dels: Once you channeled your inner mongrel you were great. Forced them to drive high and stopped the WA hitting circle edge easily.

We took the 4 points because our solid start got an early jump on Broadford and put us 5 goals in front. A solid 3rd quarter cemented the win because Broadford beat us in the 2nd quarter by 2 and in the last quarter by a goal.
The 3rd quarter stands out we doubled Broadford score through very strong defense from all 7 players on the court. Demi in WA and Madi in C both intercepted 2 passes while Kaz in the back line intercepted another 4. Feeds and assists were thrown by our GA, WA and C which meant our GS could do the work to put the shoot up. This did happen because Georgia in GS shot 14 from 19 attempts.
Q1: We had the first 3 goal run and then another 3 goal run at the final couple of minutes in the 1st quarter Broadford only scored single goals.
Q2: We shot a 3 goal run off our center, then another 2. Broadford shot 2 but we fought back for another 3. Broadford won the quarter with the last 5 goals for the quarter.
Q3: We got the first run with 3, and Broadford then shot 2 straight after. The next run was us with 3 goals and then a 4 goal run.
Q4: Broadford shot the first 4 goals of the quarter and we then shot 3 in a row. Broadford was still fighting with the next 3, we secured the next 4 before singles finished the game off.

Ash: Great movement in the ring and outstanding follow through on the shot with 3 rebounds.
Georgia: Your third quarter was solid and you clearly worked out what you needed to do in the ring with your volume being 19 attempts at goals.
Demi: Your position on the circle edge was great in the last quarter with 8 feeds.
Madi: Good movement through our attack end and solid defensive pressure. You did what you needed to do.
Caitriona: Although your stats show only 2 intercepts you did a really good job of making sure that the WA wasn’t the main feeder into goals, so you kept her off circle edge.
Taylah: your first 12 minutes was dominate. You rebounded 2 of their missed shots, intercepted 2 goals and received 1 gain. Setting up our 5 goal lead.
Karyn: Another dominate defensive game- 4 gains, 8 intercepts and 2 tips
Jess: I didn’t want to push you seen as you played a lot of 19’s and are carrying the shin splints.

We won the game because Broadford just were unable to match us in any position on the court. Although a messy game we did the basic right, scored off our centers recovered a lot of ball through our defensive pressure and eventually finished off to take a healthy win.
Our last quarter stands out for the solid defensive work that all players on the court did to get us a comfortable win. We had 6 deflections from our center down to our keeper and that put doubt in the attackers mind and the intercepts and gains followed. 4 gains were taken and 11 intercepts. The 11 intercepts are credit to Chloe 1, Ciara 1, Ty 3, Mads 1, Janelle 4 and Katie 1.
The ball was not wasted with 17 feeds and 16 assists, all being rewarded with an attempt at goal. Our goalers were not overly accurate with 18 converted goals and 6 missed goal but it wasn’t too bad considering Broadford were aloud to push and shove a little bit more and stand much closer than 3 feet to defend.
Q1: we had a 5 goal run early, then another 5 and then shot the last 6 of the quarter.
Q2: We shot the first 2 and Broadford got their first 2 goal run. We then clocked 3 and then 2, then 4 and another 4.
Q3: We had the first 3 goal run and then it went single goals for a short while. We shot 5 and then 3.
Q4: we shot the first 9 of the quarter, then Broadford had a 3 goal run. We shot 3 and then the last 6 of the game.

Ash: First run in A grade was decent. Most of the time you moved well but when you started to fatigue the shots weren’t sinking.
Chelsea: unavailable due to injury.
Caitlyn: We all felt out of sorts and made hard work of scoring a goal, we did what we needed to do to win the game.
Maddy: Playing ½ in center gave us a different style of play. Although you felt a little lost, you cleared out of the crowded space and provided an option to feed into the goalers.
Ty: 5 gains and 13 intercepts. It was a defenders game! You smashed out the feeds and assists in the last quarter in center.
Janelle: With it being a defensive game, you didn’t really get a chance to smash out the stats in defense because the work was all done before you had a chance to get your hands to a ball. Your last quarter was solid 3 tips, 1 gain, 4 intercepts and a rebound.
Katie: Your first quarter rattled their goaler with 4 intercepts and 2 rebounds. You kept the goal shooter to 50% with 1 from 2 attempts.
Georgia: In the 3rd quarter you got amongst it with a gain, tip, intercept and rebound. You also kept your goaler to shooting only 3 goals from 7 attempts.

It was clear in this game that we are a skilful and versatile team. We capitalised on their misses and brought the ball down court effectively and converted. Our defensive pressure intimidated Broadford and caused them to make mistakes and us to take advantage of them. Our gaolers were accurate with on 7 misses for the game and a team goaling percentage of 84%, compared to Broadford’s team shooting percentage of 48%. Overall a great game by all.
I thought it was pretty consistent over all four quarters. Our last quarter was our highest scoring quarter which suggests that we have the legs to run out a solid four quarters of netball. We had 15 more recoveries than turnovers which is what we need to win games. We averaged 11 recoveries per quarter. We had 21 intercepts for the game which shows we are a good defensive team. However, 22 of our 29 turnovers were bad passes, which is way too many for one game. This may be due to the high number of lob passes to a backwards drive. Our drives need to be precise and towards the player, especially under the conditions we play in.

A very solid full court defence which shut down Digger’s drive through the court. It was a really accurate goal shooting effort in windy conditions. The wind effected our Q2 shooting accuracy with only 4 goals. We had a very high 32 contacts mostly from players not taking that extra step to move forward for those 2 handed intercepts so in turn we had plenty of turnover opportunities lost. It was an exceptional defensive effort with intercepts, gains and rebounding with fantastic drive out of defence.
As mentioned above we need to ensure that we take that extra step to drive through with two hands to make those intercepts. I also feel that we need to hold that little bit longer before making our leads as I think some of our timing is a little early.

Charlotte – Clever ring positioning, but needs to say no to passes that are not on.
Audrey – Great defensive pressure and great shooting, but needs to recognise when to play in front.
Macey – Injured
Bianca – Some really great feeds, but some really forced feeds also. Good movement in the ring, while goaling.
Molly S – unwell
Alex – Great movement and drive, but need to work on the timing of the leads.
Madi – Great calm start, very consistent, but need to work with WA on when to lead.
Molly R – Great running, but need to release those passes without hesitation.
Cassie – Once settled extremely strong centre court defence. Just need to work on getting those feet around to reduce the amount of contact.
Shanae – Definitely a great defensive game with many intercepts and rebounds.
Jess – Strong defensive effort, must bring those feet around and make sure you go for those rebounds with both hands.

This was a very messy game by everyone. Our warm up was less than acceptable which showed in the game. We did not look like the team that we have been for the last 4 weeks of the season. Our movement down the court was always behind and our drives were lacking which made it easy for them to pick off lob passes, especially with the environmental conditions of the day. We won the game but only just when we know they are a team we can beat by much more. 13 of our 20 turnovers were bad passes which can mean 13 more goals for the opposition. We were lucky that diggers goaling accuracy was low because they put up 8 more shot than us for the game. Lucky win but we need to improve ten fold.
Our first quarter was probably our best quarter as we kept our turnovers to 3 and it was our highest scoring quarter. We started out alright with drives down the court and defensive pressure and then it lacked for the next 3 quarters. The other 3 quarters were pretty much goal for goal with our 3rd quarter being our worst as we lost this quarter by 1. Defenders, we let their goalers get every single rebound in this quarter. Overall this game was not our best and we know what we need to work on and our warm up needs to be better as it shows on court.

We won the game with solid full court defense. We took 19 clean intercepts and deflected a pass 12 times to slow Diggers Rest down and gain a better defensive position. The pressure over the ball and playing tight man on man defense got us 21 gains. 42 recoveries in a 48 minute game is outstanding, it is converting those recoveries that we need to continue to work on.
We could have lost the game with the amount of turnovers we were throwing. Anything we picked up as a recovery was thrown away with a replay, contact penalty in our ring, 2 held balls, 6 coaching killing steps, 3 offside calls and 18 bad passes.
The first quarter stands out because we put out a solid 12 minutes stamping our authority on the game with a 12 to 7 start. The goaling was great with only 1 miss from 12 attempts and it was equally shared with offloads to find the best goaling position in the ring. Demi did her job perfectly taking almost all the center passes and feeding in 9 balls. All 4 attackers assisted with the goal which made us unpredictable, giving us a good feed in from the circle edge- right where we want to be.
Defensive pressure was great and this rattled Diggers because the man on man style didn’t suit their short attacking drives and they were stopped from hitting the circle edge for an easy feed. Under that pressure their goalers missed 6 shots and although our rebounding position needed work (they rebounded 3) we were still putting them under a lot of pressure in the ring. Outside the ring Sharna was cleaning up with 2 intercepts and 2 gains and Maddy a gain.
Although we had a held ball by Ash, a step by Tay and every other player on court but Sharna threw a bad pass, we made the most of all the opportunities given to us.
Q1: We broke them first shooting the first 2 but they broke back with two 2 goal runs straight after. We then had three 3 goal runs before a few singles were shot. We shot the last 2 giving us a healthy start 12- 7.
Q2: Diggers got off to a good start scoring the first 3 but with some solid defense from Kaz with 4 intercepts, Tay 2 gains and 2 rebounds and Sharna 2 intercepts we shot the next 5 goals. The good news ends there because they shot the last 5 of the quarter 17- 15.
Q3: We broke out with the first 2 goals and with 5 misses Diggers jumped with 4 in a row. 20-19. A few single shots and then our run of 5 gave us a 4 goal lead again 25- 21.
Q4: We shot the first goal to watch the next 4 be taken from us. We were up by 1 goal again, giving away the lead we worked so hard to get. Lucky we had two 2 goal runs before Diggers put the last 2 goals on giving us a 2 goal win.

Ash: really sharp movement in and around the ring, just need to improve the goaling accuracy.
Georgia: good positioning under the ring and offloads to ensure a ‘safe’ shot. Accuracy needs to improve.
Demi: Smashed the center passes in the first half and then became a little predicable and was kept a little quieter in the second half. Took 86% of center passes in the first half and took 66% in the second half,
Madi: 3 defensive recoveries in center and a good back up around the ring for our goalers.
Sharna: Only 2 bad passes for the game and 10 recoveries, not a bad work rate ;) You were the key to us getting the ball through our center third.
Sarah: Got a hand to a gain getting back one of our lost balls, however the …wait for it… stepping on is unnecessary and cost you a step, held and bad pass.
Taylah: Dominate 3rd quarter with 2 gains and 2 intercepts, all coming from you being on your toes and moving through for the ball rather than standing flat footed.
Karyn: Started a little slow and then killed it. 2 tips, 7 gains, 6 intercepts and 2 rebounds. Single handedly gave us 15 balls.
Jess: Came on in the last quarter, started moving your feet and stopped lunging and the results were 2 gains, 1 intercepts and a rebound all in 8 minutes of the game.

The game was won because a change in positions in the last half gave us the body we were missing in the center and a taller more mobile keeper. The goalers also started connecting better and drawing free penalties, giving us an easier shot. Doubling our half time score of 15, with 30 goals in the second half of netball.
Our really poor start stands out because of the high amount of turnovers particularly from Ciara but the positive is that our defenders kept us in it with 14 recoveries. We relied on these recoveries because clearly we couldn’t keep our centers.
The second quarter was also extremely poor across the court. Another 8 silly turnovers due to poor timing and execution. Our attempts at goal were minimized because of these turnovers and the defensive pressure was delayed. We only managed 7 recoveries (J) to make up for the 7 goal run which pushed out their lead to 6.
Now we started playing our brand of netball. With 30 minutes to go we needed to work hard to undo all our silly mistakes and start again. Simple we minimized turnovers to 2 replays and 1 bad pass, the center passes were shared around, we cleaned up our defense and fed the ball in and out until we drew a penalty or shot from a close range. Chloe who was the better shooter for the day took all the penalties and racked up 12 of our 13 goals in this quarter. We recovered less with 1 intercept from Ty in center but the gains is where we put them under most pressure. In 15 minutes we had it back to a draw.
In the last quarter we continued on from the 3rd with a change in position from Maddy to Karlee, just to change it up. Everything statistically looked similar but the increase was the recoveries from our FULL COURT pressure. Katie, Janelle, Karlee. Ty and Ciara all get hands to an intercept giving us a clean run at goals. Solid TEAM effort and digging in gave us the 30 goal ½ time score
Q1: We shot the first 2 goals and then another 2. 4-1 but Diggers put 2 equally on the board and then it was goal for goal. 8-7.
Q2: The first 4 goals were singles and then we fell asleep. Diggers shot 7 in a row before we put one back on the board. We had a 2 goal run and they had a 2 goal run and we were chasing 15- 21.
Q3: the first 4 were singles and then we shot 3 in a row. Diggers responded with 2 and then it was a goal for goal contest for a while. We were down by 4 before we shot 4 in a row bringing it to a draw 28 all and then Diggers shot another 2, we got back with 2 and the score was a draw 30 all.
Q4: The first 4 were singles before Digger out the first 2 on the board, we shot 4 in a row in response, then 3, then another 3 and then the last 3 to win the game by 9.

Chloe: Solid second half of movement and shooting.
Chelsea: unavailable due to illness
Karlee: Good back up around our ring for feeds and assists, the center was just that bit too tall for you.
Caitlyn: Although we struggled to get our timing and space right in the second half you made really good position after the center pass and created a clear path into our goal third and into a goaler.
Dels: You ran well with the WA but didn’t seem to get any direct rewards from your work.
Maddy: A good body match with the WA with 3 recoveries and reducing her feeds into the goalers in the 3rd quarter.
Ty: Playing you out in center was definitely the key to having such a strong last half. 3 gains in the mid court and equal work load around our ring, giving the goalers 2 options.
Janelle: Ran with Shelby in and outside the goal circle trying to reduce her impact on the game. Working on picking balls off and cutting off leads around the top are starting to pay off, and when they didn’t they were forced to take the pass or shot inside circle edge.
Katie: 2 tips, 2 intercepts a gain and a rebound all in the last quarter was significant to out goaling streaks. You moved your feet and had a real go at spoiling the ball.

We won the game because we played a solid and steady 4 quarters of netball. Our skill level was evident against Sunbury and it was our highest scoring margin so far this season. We had a goal set and we exceeded it. Our turnovers were the lowest that they’ve been this season and our recoveries were more than double our turnovers. Our gosling accuracy was outstanding and as well as our movement down court. This movement allowed easy feeds into the ring close to the post. 10 bad passes out of 15 turnovers.
All four quarters today were outstanding but if I had to pick one it would be the 4th quarter as we kept Sunbury score less and our turnovers were the lowest for the game and our recoveries were the highest for the game (only by 1 for each). Defensive pressure and movement down court throughout the entire game was excellent. Our feeds were close to the post which allowed easy and accurate gosling from our goalers. Great game by all.
Susan: Accurate goaling. Good rebounds for 96% effectiveness.
Amy: Very accurate goaling. Good movement in ring. 2 intercepts
Robyn: Strong drives and good feeds (11 feeds). Good defensive pressure. 1 intercept, 3 tips, 6 assists.

We won because Sunbury tried their best but they were inexperienced and made a lot of mistakes in which we capitalized on.
None really but if I had to choose one to be picky it would be the second quarter because we didn’t score 12 like in the other 3 quarters. In the second quarter we turned over the ball 6 times with 4 bad passes, a fumble, an offside and 3 missed goals. Our attacking work was quite strong with the feeds shared by B and Demi and the goalers moved sharply but volume wasn’t as high as the other quarters. We kept them quite low and rebounded almost all their missed shots.
Q1: We shot the first 2 goals and then it was goal for goal for the next 4. We raced ahead taking the next 6 goals and then it was goal for goal until the siren.
Q2: We had a 2 goal run, another 2 goal run and then a 4 goal run. Sunbury had no runs.
Q3: We had a 2 goal run, then another 2 and then a 3 goal run before Sunbury had their first 2 goal run of the game. We then shot 3 more,
Q4: We kicked off with the first 3 and then 2 and then another 2. Sunbury had a 2 goal run before we shot the last of the game.

Maddy: 2 intercepts and a gain in the last quarter. Solid last 12 minutes.

Dels: You ran that ball down the court effortlessly.
Taylah: Your first quarter was good. You had a tip, 2 gains, 3 rebounds and a rebound.

We could have lost the game with our 28 turnovers and 50 contacts and brain fade of not playing 4 solid quarters, but we won the game because we got off to a good start (13) and came out firing in the 3rd quarter (13) while keeping them to 14 in a combined 1st and 3rd quarter.
Our second and fourth quarter’s performance was of a very low standard where we made several mistakes and gave Wallan the opportunity to fight back. Analyzing the second quarter we threw away 7 bad passes, every player responsible but Ty in GK. We threw a lot of unforced errors because we simply didn’t pass to the first lead/ option. We were heavily penalized for contacts, where advantage was not played, which gave Wallan the chance to reset and gather the ball. The full court defensive pressure wasn’t there as there were no recoveries from any player that didn’t have a D or K next to their name. Ty got tips to 6 balls, 3 gains, an intercepts and a rebound but they clearly didn’t transfer into a Macedon goal as that should have been 8 additional goals to our tally. Wallan’s goalers were rattled shooting 7 from 15 attempts and this alone kept us in the quarter. Feeds and assists were dominated by our WA but they didn’t transfer to a goal shooting 6 from 13 attempts although Amy’s recovery for a good rebounding position was great with 4 rebounds.
A solid performance in quarter 1 and 3 is what won us the game, and should have set the scene for the entire game. In the 3rd quarter we turned over ball with 3 bad passes from Chloe and Ciara, 2 contact penalties from Caitlyn and Chloe and an off side by Chelsea, just silly mistake that cost us 6 direct goals, that could have been added to our 13 and we need to learn from that. The umpires continued to call us for contacting (14 contact calls from our WD, GD and GK), while they let the obstructions go. Our body work at least put them off their shots shooting 6 from 11 attempts. Our full court defensive pressure
picked up with some gains coming from the middies and goalers. 28 feeds to bring the ball closer into the goal ring paid off shooting 13 from 14 attempts. If only we pushed on from this quarter…
Q1: We shot the first 2 goal run and Wallan followed. It went goal for goal before we broke away with 4 goals. Wallan broke us back to score 2 and then we shot another 2. The last 2 goals were singles. 13- 8.
Q2: A single goal apiece and then they had a 4 goal run. One more each and then we shot 2 and then singles to finish a very low scoring quarter.
Q3: We both put a goal each on the board and then we struck with 4 goals and then another 4. The next 8 goals were scored off singles. Wallan didn’t have a single goal run this quarter.
Q4: Wallan broke us to score the first 2 goals and then we each had a couple of singles. Wallan shot 5 in a row when we had it our 34 – 24 bringing the score back 34- 29. We put our foot down and took the next 5 goals as they finished with the last goal of the game. 39 -30

Chelsea: Feeds extremely high in the 3rd and 4th quarter with strong give and go’s.
Karlee: Unavailable to illness
Caitlyn: 4 intercepts and a gain through hard defensive pressure and over 35 feeds. A solid day at the office.
Dels: 2 intercepts and 2 deflections applying pressure to get a turnover from behind.
Maddy: An intercept and a gain but highly penalized with 3 obstructions and 2 contacts. The umpire just didn’t like your defense.
Ty: 7 gains, 4 intercepts, 2 rebounds and 9 deflections- I’d say you did your defensive job.
Janelle: 2 intercepts, 3 rebounds, 1 gain and 3 deflections, you were in there trying to spoil the ball.
Katie: Solid 2nd half even though you thought you were going to spew J You made it very difficult for an easy pass in you racked up 6 tips, 2 gains, 2 intercepts and 2 rebounds.
They are so hard because our attackers are doing a great job its just they are turning over a lot of ball, undoing the good work.

We won the game because we were the most composed team on court. We adjusted to the umpires and played our game. We looked like a well-oiled machine. We kept our turnovers down and movement down the court was smooth. Our timing was excellent and goalers accuracy was great.
Again, 16 of our 23 turnovers were bad passes. This needs improvement.
I thought we played a very settled and steady game throughout all four quarters. Our lowest turnover count was in the 4th quarter, which means we had the legs to run out the full game. Our bad passes were only kept to 2 in the 4th quarter (out of our 4 turnovers). Defensive pressure down the court was excellent and their zone did not faze us in the slightest. Feeds into the ring need work but those that were executed well were finished off by accurate goaling. Great team effort in a very steady game.

Amy: accurate goaling. Good movement in ring. 1 intercept

Our first quarter performance had real potential to kill us. 5 bad passes, 1 replay, 2 contacts and a break. Ontop of this we missed 7 shots. That’s 16 turnovers in 12 minutes of play. We stayed in it with bloody good defense from the team. Every player but our GS recovered an intercept and Kaz dominated with 3 more recoveries, 3 deflections and 3 rebounds.
We won the game with a changeup of our goaling end with Ciara coming on and moving our players to the best space to transition a ball and we scored slow and steady from there.
In the first quarter it was a mess transitioning any ball into our ring. An experienced Lancefield forced us to throw balls that were uncertain and we didn’t throw to the obvious lead. Our defenders stood out in the first quarter because they kept us in the game Kaz earned 7 balls back, Jess 2, Red 2 and Madi 2.
Our 3rd quarter was pretty clean with only 3 turnovers and no bad passes. We were clean in defense not attracting much whistle and our defense earnt us ball by forcing Lancefield to rush a ball and we picked up the scraps. Demi smashed the feeds into a dominate Ash. Ash and Georgia shared all 12 goals scored. Lancefield was kept quiet putting up 8 shots and only converting 5.
Q1: Lancefield scored the first 3 goals of the game before we finally shot on a 5 goal run, the last 3 goals were goal for goal and the score was 6-5 at quarter time.
Q2: It went goal for goal for the first 5 minutes before we shot 2 in a row. Lancefield then broke our center and shot 3 in a row. With strong defensive pressure we took 2 back and Lancefield scored the last of the half. 12 -13.
Q3: We broke their first center and scored the first 2 for the quarter. It went goal for goal for the next 5 shots until we had a small 2 goal break. We then ran away with another 4 goals before the last 5 goals were point for point. We had a 24- 18 lead heading into the last quarter.
Q4: Lancefield broke us shooting the first 2 goals. We stopped their run quickly to put 3 more on the board. We had another strategic change in our goaling circle and Lancefield shot 3 in a row. It went goal for goal until they waged a fight back with 4 in a row, lucky for us we shot the last goal taking the win 31- 29.

The game was won because we were the most consistent team for 60 minutes. Our second half was our strongest. We kept Rupo to just the 15 goals while we shot 25. The versatility of our line up and carrying 11 strong players gave us the edge over Rupo.
We had potential to lose the game with the huge amount of turnovers from our attackers. 30 of the 32 for the game was thrown by our WA’s down to our GS. In the last quarter we had 5 coach killers with 3 steps, 1 break and an offside. We need to work on eliminating these errors for our game if we are going to have a successful season against the top teams.
In the first quarter we had way too many possessions in our goaling end with very little result. 23 feeds in and out before we found a decent shooting position. 23 feeds before 10 goals were scored. Work rate is too high and un necessary.
In the second quarter we were turning over the ball too much through Amy, Ciara and Chloe at our transverse line. Feeds were low because ball was struggling to hit the circle edge and our volume was the result. In defense we were also too loose with Rupo bringing the ball down court too quickly and uncontested. 4 gains and 2 intercepts tell the story of not enough recovery or pressure from all over the court.
Our defense in the 3rd was tight man on man pressure forcing held balls, gains and tips. Cailyn lead the charge in C with 2 gains and an intercept and the Cats behind stepped it up. Janelle was particularly strong with 3 rebounds, 2 intercepts and a gain. In attack the feeds and assists were dominated by Ciara
in WA feeding all but 4 balls into the goalers. Amy and Chloe finished off with just the 1 miss for the quarter.
We brought it home in the last quarter, although attackers were coughing up the ball with 5 unforced errors. Georgia continued to apply tight body work with 3 gains while Janelle, Dels and Caitlyn smashed it out front with 2 intercepts each. Rupo were starved of ball having the worst quarter of the game with just 7 goals converted.
Q1: We shot the first goal after a bit of up and back before Rupo took advantage of our shaky start in goals and shot 3 in a row. Defenders pounced and we shot 3. Rupo then shot another 3 and then another 3. We had a 2 goal run, they broke our center and had another 2 goal run before we shot the 3. They finished with the last of the quarter 10-12.
Q2: They shot the first 3 goals giving them a 5 goal lead. It went singles for the next 5 before Rupo again shot 3 in a row. They had the lead out to 7. A single each and we shot our first run for the quarter with 3 before it was goal for goal for the remainder of the quarter. 21- 25.
Q3: They shot the first goal off their center before we had a 4 goal run bringing the score back 25-27. Rupo responded with 2 goals before a couple of singles were shot 28-31 We then had another 4 goal run putting us in the lead by a goal 32-31. They had a single followed by 3 goals for us. After they shot the last shot for the quarter we were up for the first time of the game 35- 33.
Q4: We shot the first goal and Rupo shot the next 2. We had a 1 goal lead. 5 goals in a row, then another 3 and we had the lead out 44-37. Rupo shot 2 more before it was a goal for goal ending, giving us a 6 goal win.

Amy: Great positioning in the ring and finishing off with very accurate goaling.
Chloe: Volume kept high with 33 attempts at goal.
Chelsea: Sat on the bench taking part in the game as a team member.
Karlee: A passive C in the first quarter that didn’t get a chance to inject into the game.
Caitlyn: Great job matching a very experienced Prue in C. 3 intercepts and 2 gains in the last half shows that your defense is really stepping up.
Dels: 2 tips, 2 gains and 2 intercepts. The arm span slowed up their quick transition and gave our circle defenders a second to breath.
Maddy: 2 gains, an intercepts and a tip in 15 minutes. Great job wearing the WA down, unfortunately after the smack to the face with the ball you started sagging back a little.
Ty: It was difficult to get some recoveries with the umpiring calling you a fair bit for contesting. As you came off your player the rewards came, taking a much needed intercept to turn the game for us.
Janelle: Quiet in the first half but the second half 4 intercepts and 4 rebounds V 1 gain in the first half.
Georgia: Solid 1st and last quarter. 6 gains, an intercepts and a rebound. When you were on your feet you were powerful.

We won the game because we were a cohesive team and dominated on court. We kept our turnovers to a minimum and our accuracy from the goalers was excellent. Our movement down the court was fluid and feeds into goalers were well timed and executed well.
Again, 16 of our 22 turnovers were bad passes. This needs improvement.
I thought our third quarter was our best quarter as it was our highest scoring quarter, turnovers were kept to 5 and we had 10 recoveries. Our opposition looked tired and we capitalised on it. All our turnovers in this quarter were bad passes which if we take that out of our game we will be unstoppable.

We lost the game because we were outmatched throughout the entire court. We hesitated on passing to our team mates, and our volume was not high enough to win us the game.
Rupo chased every ball down and after an error worked extremely hard to get the ball back. We gave everything 75% of what it required. Throughout the whole court we were missing that 25% to be competitive.
The third quarter stands out for quite a few reasons.
Q1: We both scored off our first center pass and then they put the foot down with 4 in a row. We shot 2 but Rupo went harder with another 3. It again went goal for goal with the center passes until we had a 3 goal run bringing the score back to 8 -10 only to have Rupo pull the rug from underneath us to shoot the next 2. 8 -12.
Q2: We took the first 3 goal run bringing the score to 13- 15 before Rupo took off again with two 3 goal runs. 14- 21.
Q3: Goal for goal for most of the quarter until Rupo shot the last 4 of the quarter pushing their lead out 19 -29.
Q4: They continued that run putting the first 5 on the board and then another 2 and then another 3 and then the last goal of the quarter to bury us 24- 43.

The game was won with a solid defensive performance from the whole team. Our positional defensive unit killed with clean recoveries and got their hands 18 deflections throughout the 60minutes on court. Our attackers feed the ball extremely well when they were on circle edge and our goalers delivered putting up a whopping 86 goals.
Although we had a 16 goal lead at half time our first half was not overly impressive. 15 turnovers in the first half with a step, held, break and a handful of bad passes. The bad passes came from every player on the court but Dels. We were struggling to find an easy path through the chaos of Rockbanks defense which lead us to rely on just the one goaler. Chloe dominate in our goal circle shooting all 13 until the 2nd quarter when we did a positional swap and the goaling become an even workload. And defenders were doing their best to adjust to 2 very different umpires.
Our strongest quarter was our last. As expected we wore our opposition down and all 10 players still had fuel in the tank at the final whistle. Amy and Ciara started the 4th quarter in the goal circle together and Caitlyn out in front with Karlee in the center. Dels came back into WD and Janelle and Ty kept the backend under control. Turnovers were low (5), center passes crisp and feeds and assists direct. We were patient on the double team waiting for a goaler to open up and the goals just kept adding up. We only had one miss because our shots were taken from a ‘sure thing’ spot.
Defenders continued their great work with Karlee taking 3 intercepts, Dels 2 intercepts, a gain and 2 deflections, Janelle smashed out another 2 intercepts and a gain and Ty finished her boxing match with 2 tips, 2 gains and 2 intercepts. Rockbank were kept to just 6 shots. A solid last quarter all around.
Q1: We shot the first 4, then 2, then 3 before Rockbank put 3 in a row on the board. A couple of sigles and a 3 goal run gave us a 14- -8 lead before both teams added one more to the count. 15- 9.
Q2: We started the 2nd quarter with the first 7 shot, then a couple of singles were added by both team. Rockbank then shot 2 in a row before we pilled on another 6. They fought back for a 2 goal run and we finished with goal number 31m while Rockbank had 15 to their name.
Q3: The first 4 shots were singles before Rockbank took control with a 4 goal run. We then took a single before a 3 goal run. 3 more singles hit the board before we shot another 3. Rockbank shot2 and we finished with the last 3. 43- 25.
Q4: The first 7 shots were singles and then shot 5 in a row, then a single each before we were out of there. We shot the next 16 goals to finish 68- 30.

Chloe: Sharp solid movement out in GA outplaying the GD to take an ‘easy’ run into the circle.
Chelsea: Driving from Wallan to Rockbank in record time! In center you had a gain, 2 intercepts and took a recovery from a Rockbank missed shot.
Karlee: 3 intercepts in the last quarter in C and solid feeding to boot.
Caitlyn: Consistent play trying to work around the chaos that was our movement in the goal ring in the first half. Sharp predictable drives in attack in the last quarter gave our goalers and easy shot.
Dels: You took advantage of a tired WA in the last quarter taking a gain and 2 intercepts. Those long arm also deflected 2 passes, slowing up the quick feed into the tall GS.
Ty: Your body must be sore working over the GS. You racked up 11 deflections, 8 gains, 7 intercepts and 2 rebounds. You earnt the team 28 balls.
Janelle: The GA was nonexistent because of your work out front. 2 deflections, 3 gains, 7 intercepts and 2 rebounds. After that work you assisted bringing the ball down court.

We won the game because we were controlled and sharp. Our movement down the court was fluid and our full court pressure forced turnovers, which we were able to capitalize on. Our movement and feeds into the goalers were well timed and on point.
Being able to extend our lead from the second quarter showed that we had the legs and the drive to win. Great team effort.
The third quarter stands out, as it was our highest goaling and lowest turnover quarter. This means that our full court pressure was on point forcing Riddell to make a mistake, which our defenders capitalized on with 5 intercepts coming from our WD (Marilyn) and 11 recoveries. Movement down the court was smooth as forward drives were strong and feeds into the goalers executed well.

We shot a goal from our first center before taking the foot off and letting Riddell score 3 goals. Ty worked her magic and we shot 3 to get back the lead we had. It went goal for goal until Taylah called a Time Out and Kaz returned to the court. Riddell immediately shot 3 goals in a row and had it back 51- 49. Then we stepped it up! 4 goal run and then another 4. Scoring 8 to their 1. Lucky the time was close because Riddell finished with the last 3 for the game. 58 -51.
The game had potential to be lost in the first quarter when Riddell shot a 5 goal run early and got a real jump on us. Pulling apart the game there were passages in every quarter where we gave the ball up too easily and Riddell took advantage of that and went on a goal run. This occurred in every quarter.
We won the game because our turnover count was very low and we did the hard work to ensure that we scored a goal. It showed that we have had a strong preseason, as our fitness and court work did not deteriorate as the game progressed and in some cases got stronger as the opposition tired. Our recoveries started at 6 in the first quarter and finished with 9.
A very flexible team also was instrumental in the win.
The 3rd quarter stands out as it was the quarter where we took advantage of Riddell’s changes and applied tighter pressure to force them to turn over the ball. In defense we were very clean contesting the ball with no contacts being called and only obstructions from Taylah in GK. The deflections were high (5), gains coming through the defense third from Ty and then topped off with 4 intercepts from our circle defenders. This raddled Riddell and that meant that their goaler were uncertain when forced to shoot. Both goalers missed 2 goals each, of which we rebounded 50% of.
The attack end wasn’t so pretty once the ball was in our goal circle. Lack of protection and long shots were the cause of the 8 missed goals and this impacted on the workload, with everyone having to switch to defense very quickly. Lucky for us our rebounding position paid off and 4 attacking rebounds landed in our laps for another attempt at goals.

We didn’t get off to the start we wanted with Digger scoring the first 2 goals of the game. Our turnover count was through the roof with 13 errors that cost us 13 goals in the first term. Every player on the court was responsible for a mistake but it was Chloe that was not having a great quarter with a break, a contact penalty and 4 bad passes. The attack end was getting frustrated with each other and our timing was way out.
Releasing the ball and finding a drive on the center pass wasn’t causing too much trouble and delivery onto and into our goal ring was good but it was the forced passes and cross court passes that put a stop to a fast break. When the ball made it into Tara and Chloe they both shot well missing only the 1 goal each.
Defensive pressure was strong particularly from out C down to our GK. Although Karlee didn’t seem to get much ball in our attack end she was strong on defense with 2 intercepts and a gain. Dels sagged back a little bit too much especially in the wet but when she did press up the long arms forced a bad pass and 2 gains were received.Janelle was tight on Amy not giving her too much room to move and the reward came from 3 intercepts, a rebound and a gain while Katie held back in GK for 2 intercepts and 2 gains. Strong defensive pressure kept us in the game especially with Rupo shooting at 100%.

Changes were made in an attempt to try and get the ball through our attack and defense end a little smoother than in the first quarter. We went for a faster moving goal circle and a faster, shorter defense around the ring. It did reduce our turnover count but unfortunately it did not increase our score.
Janelle and Katie were the only 2 players who were not responsible for a turnover but we did clean up the amount each player was turning over. A step and a fumble still made it in the stats (L) but at least we were reducing this count.
Our center passes became a little difficult with Tayla being bodied out and we needed to go behind for 2 center passes. The second phase ball was much smoother and the HUGE amount of feeds show the short sharp work being done in and around the ring to get a safe shooting position. Chloe continued her uncharacteristic game with 7 missed goals but quickly responded with some aerial work for the rebounds.
Our whole court defense stepped up and although only 8 recoveries the work was being done with the amount of ball Diggers were having to pay around with. We were kept quiet though the mid court with just the 6 intercepts coming from the back end. Katie took 4, Janelle 1 and Maddy 1. Special mention to Ciara and Chloe who received a gain.
With the change of ends came more contact calls and no obstruction calls. Each player from C down was put out of play twice while Katie was set aside 3 times. Not a lot of whistle being used but we were letting Diggers know that we were there.
Diggers shot the first 3 before we shot 6 in a row to take a 4 goal lead 22- 18.

It is very rare that Chloe takes the bench but this needed to happen in the 3rd quarter to increase our goaling percentage. It did increase our goaling percentage but the volume wasn’t high at all. We were losing the ball in delivery with Tayla throwing 3 bad passes and Chelsea another 3. 6 opportunities were lost and 3 mote through missed goals- that’s an easy 9 goals given away and Diggers Rest were put back in the game.
We were highly penalized in the 3rd with 16 calls with Maddy being put out of play 4 times with no recoveries for the quarter. Chelsea gave good chase around the circle taking 2 intercepts but Janelle and Katie were left with the load back in GK and GD. Katie and Janelle worked well in the ring together tightening up on the base line and between them 8 recoveries were made.
Diggers GA had her eye in and shot 9 from 9 while the less experienced GS shot at 50%. No rebounds were taken from the 5 opportunities from both ends.

Turnovers continued to kill us with 10 more to add to the bunch, making the total count 38 turnovers for the game. Most in this quarter came directly from our attack end, 5 from Tayla. Our attackers were just way too costly in todays game making hard work for everyone to get it back.
Our center passes were at their lowest with only 5 thrown for the quarter, an indication that there was way too much stuffing around with the ball. Feeds were dominated by Karlee and Tayla with strong body work needing to be done to deliver the ball. Goalers eventually put up with ball with a few missed balls going astray.
We were very clean in defense and tidied up our body work. Every player on court worked their but of to defend and the result was a recovery for 6 players on court. In the end our circle defense was outstanding and that is where the game was won. Katie had 4 tips, 1 gain, 3 intercepts and 3 rebounds and Janelle deflected 5 balls, received a gain and intercepted 2 passes. This pressure kept their goalers to a very low 2 goals for the quarter missing 4 shots.

Our start wasn’t the finest with Diggers breaking our first center and scoring the first 2 goals but we regrouped quickly and scored the next 2 goals and finished the quarter with the last 3 goals giving us a 2 goal lead 9 -7.
Our turnovers continue to kill us with 8 bad passes in 12 minutes of netball. Diggers did have strong defense but the options were there we just held onto the ball for too long. Defensive pressure was tight from everyone with all 7 players getting a recovery. Our mid court picked up the clean intercepts and out circle defenders slowed up play with 4 deflections. When Diggers had the opportunity to shoot out defenders did their best to apply tight pressure and the direct result was very poor shooting from their goalers. This was the key to keeping us in the game. They missed 7 goals and we rebounded 4 of those. These opportunities is what continually keeps our head above water.
Feeding and assisting around the ring was good when we didn’t throw it away earlier down court. Golaers shot reasonably well and Kaz took her fair share of the work load. We shot 9 and missed 3 goals. With Kaz back 2 of those were rebounded and a second attempt was given back to us. Feeds and assists were equally shared by our C, WA and GA, making us a little less predictable around the ring.

We were smashed this quarter with our own mistakes. We threw away 7 balls and missed 9 shots with just the 2 rebounds. This gave Diggers every opportunity to pounce and pounce is what they did. They shot 11 then 12, then 13… until the siren went and they stopped at 18.
Our center passes were difficult needing to be constantly shared between all 4 options. This created difficulty in our second phase and increased the chance of a turnover. When we did work the ball through Darcy was strong on the drive to the circle edge. The ball was delivered into the goalers but inaccurate goaling was the undoing of us with 9 missed goals.
We were reactive to switch to defense with 5 intercepts and 2 gains stopping Diggers from adding another handful of goals to their score. I made a few changes after our 2nd quarter performance with Bianca playing center, Sarah out in Gd and Jess S taking the court in GK. We lost the 3rd 5 -7 which was more respectable but it was still too far from where we needed to be.
The changed worked in defense but when converting our defense into attack we lacked some drive down court and this left the attackers too far back behind the transverse and this is what cause a few bad passes. Sharna was costly with 4 contacts, struggling to adjust to the opposition and what the umpire was seeing in the contest. Sarah and Jess made it difficult for Diggers to throw an easy pass from goaler to goaler and forced them to take the shot from further than they would have liked. Diggers had several opportunities to score but inaccuracy kept us close shooting 7 from 13 attempts.
Through our attack we struggled to get the ball onto the circle and this uncertainty affected our shooting confidence. We shot 5 from 9 with no rebounds being taken. There wasn’t much good come out of our attack with no recoveries.

So we topped our turnover count with 10, not how the last quarter should be remembered. That’s 10 balls that we didn’t convert into goals which would have given us the game. We were penalized mainly for contacts with very little reward through the mid court. When you chose to contact you either slow down the ball or wear your player down, forcing them to make mistakes. Our recovery count shows that we didn’t wear them down because there were very few recoveries taken with the exception of Red. Red killed the last quarter with 3 gains, 2 intercepts and 3 rebounds. She was single handedly responsible for 10 recoveries and kept the GA to shooting 3 from 9. Jess D backed up from behind with 2 tips, an intercept and 2 rebounds also keeping the shooter to 50%.
In attack we still threw away the ball and made it very difficult for ourselves but the important part was that when the ball was delivered into our goalers the reward came with 100% accuracy. The faster moving attacking line caught Diggers off guard and that worked for us.
We won the first quarter by 2 and the last quarter by 4. The only thing to work on is stopping our opposition getting that HUGE goal run on us and the game will be ours.

We started with the first 5 goals of the game but they didn’t come easily. Our attack end were struggling to read each other and we weren’t adjusting. Chloe and Ciara were costly with bad passes, reading moves wrong and not being patient with the ball. Once we adjusted we scored quite easily but a start like that against a better team could cost us goals.
Center passes were easily taken and feeds and assists were quite high but we were not feeding from circle edge and we were passing the ball around too much unnecessarily. Our feeds and assists match up so we were more direct in getting the ball into the goalers and they found the right shooting position to put up the shot from. Tara did miss 4 goals and Chloe 2 but because we rebounded all but one back it shows that we followed our shots up and those misses didn’t cost us.
Defensive pressure was great. The work was done up high and Katie reaped the benefits with 6 intercepts. Janelle was forced to play tight man on man on a very versatile and deceiving GA and this pressure gave her 2 intercepts and a gain. Rockbank put up 9 shots and converted 5. We were very clean in defense except Chelsea fired up and took the calls for all of us. 5 contacts that did get us 4 recoveries but Chelsea needs to make sure that she doesn’t attract the umpires eyes because with another half of a game these could rack up. Maddy’s contesting was stopped with the change of umpires and 3 deflections came instead of 3 intercepts while behind her Janelle stayed tight on the GA and Katie sat at the back and read the play. We cleaned up in the turnover count but still costly in choice of pass. We have to be very careful not to force passes into Tara especially after a changeover of defenders. Four turnovers is reasonable considering the amount of ball our attackers had possession of.
Karlee coming into center changed up the passes with Maddy coming out and taking 2 center passes and it changed the workload in and around the ring. Karlee became the dominant feeders and Chloe, Ciara and Karlee all shared the assists making it very difficult for Rockbank to predict the entry point into our ring. Tara stepped up and became the dominant goaler in the third quarter with 10 goals and of our 3 misses Tara and Chloe rebounded all 3. We didn’t give too much away in attack.
Defensively Maddy became the player to attract the most whistle again but again the reward came through the pressure her man on man work was providing. She deflected 3 passes, received a gain and an intercept. Behind her was Katie who stayed on top of her goaler with 3 gains, an intercept and a rebound. Janelle was out in front chasing her speedy GA and forcing Rockbank to keep possession through lots of passes. The GA shot 5 of the 8 goals over some tough defense. We had a nice lead 47 -22.

We took our foot off the pedal and stacked up the turnovers with 8. Almost every player on court throwing a bad pass but Chloe and Katie. These bad passes didn’t come from their defensive pressure but perhaps through moving the ball too quick or their floating style of defense picking up crumbs.
Volume remained high with 16 shots being converted but we were at our highest amount of misses with 7. 4 of those goals were rebounded but it’s the second chances that we have stop expecting. When delivering the ball into the goalers Karlee and Ciara did most of the work while the assists came from Ciara and Chloe and our center was kept quiet this quarter. This switch up is a good thing because it makes us a little less predictable and the opposition struggles to work out who the game maker is.
Great mid court pressure with Maddy 2 gains and an intercept and Karlee 2 gains and 2 intercepts. They were getting strong hands to balls and turning their 3rd quarter tips into intercepts and gains. Rockbank changed goalers putting their GK into GS this quarter. Katie started to fatigue due to illness but that didn’t stop the 4 deflections, gain, intercept and 3 rebounds. A good start valuing possession and not giving the ball up with silly mistakes. The center passes started a little shaky with Kym having 2 strong options in Demi and Maighan but this was causing some confusion in the center third, Demi and Maighan needed to communicate with each other so the second phase drive was available but once they realized what they were doing towards the end of the quarter it cleaned the 2nd phase up.
Kym dominated around our ring and this was a result of passing off the center pass and driving hard down into our attack especially with Demi and Maighan out high in the center third after the center pass. She delivered the ball well to both Maighan and Georgia giving them the best opportunity to turn and shoot. Georgia started exceptionally well with 100% shooting while Maighan found the ring a little more challenging missing 4. We needed to address being an option to take the pressure off the goaler.
Defensive calls were consistent with 9 team contacts but our 3 feet distance was good. The result of the man on man pressure got us 9 recoveries and 7 tips. We were fairly consistent with the score line matching our first quarter performance but our goals didn’t come from our center passes they came from the 6 center passes and then the defensive recoveries. We had 11 recoveries coming largely from the man on man defense from Red and Kym in the middle of the court. Red and Sarah did a great job adjusting to the low passes they would throw into their goalers and the tips and recoveries came from that pressure. Rockbank were kept to scoring just 3 goals for the quarter. Job done by our defenders.
Feeds and assists were shared as Demi and Kym started to work each other out and their speed adjusted accordingly. This made it easier for the goalers, particularly Meaghan to time her drive into the ring and then to be rewarded with the ball. Georgia started to ‘pop’ and this helped the offload and took the pressure of Maighan to shoot over strong defenders.
The work rate from our attackers bringing the ball down court slowed up and this was the main reason why our turnovers added up, in addition to this there is the 3 steps called from just untidy footwork. We need to clean this up for our Diggers Rest game.

What a mess the 2nd quarter was. We shot 2 to their 6 in the first couple of minutes. We made a change because Tara was not accurate enough in GS but the change cost us in delivery and feeds and assists. Our mid court weren’t able to bring the ball down court and our goaling opportunities were limited with the huge amount of balls we were throwing away in attack.
10 turnovers in 15 minutes is unbelievably high. It is questionable about whether the passes were all ‘bad passes’ or whether the option did not commit to the lead or hold they provided on the release of the pass. Our center passes became an issue with the ball needing to be passed back 3 times. This then shut down our options in attack and created more chaos.
Goaling again was costly with 6 missed goals, Chloe and Ciara didn’t do enough to bring the ball into the ring and then when it was delivered we didn’t value the possession and finish off.
In defense we attracted a lot of whistle with 21 penalties. In Maddy’s case the penalties were worth the reward. Maddy took 3 intercepts and 2 gains while Karlee backed that work up with 2 gains and an intercept. Behind that play Beth was kept quiet with no recoveries which left the last line of defense in Katie. Katie took 2 intercepts and 2 rebounds of Rupo’s 6 missed goals. We lost this quarter by 1 goal.
We did a good job of reducing our turnovers which was crucial considering our last quarter. We were super safe with the ball and at times threw 1 too many passes increasing the chances of a turnover. At times we had few options but were patient on delivery and set ups around our ring.
Goaling improved this quarter but Tara became a non-option in GS which increase Ciara’s work out front and in the ring. This worked for us when we were patient and Tara pulled her GK away but protection of the shot and rebound was still an area we needed to improve on. We only missed 2 goals and of those 2 goals Tara and Ciara rebounded them back
Karlee stepped up and became the main feeder to our goalers which meant that he work rate was getting very high. Chelsea threw the assists placing herself on and around the ring to a good feed in. This made us a little less predictable, which can be a good thing.
We were wearing out in defense with very few recoveries. Maddy continued to keep the WA out of play and the center was their main feeder. We only recovered 6 balls and they weren’t clean recoveries. Katie and Beth 2 gains each and Karlee an intercept. We were going toe for toe because our recoveries dried up. We had a 2 goal lead thanks to our 2 goal run before the siren.

This is where we lost the game. Rupo shot the first 5 goals of the quarter and the last 4. We did a good job of hanging in there but players not recognizing that there was a need for an ‘injury’ and others not stepping up when it was needed meant that we went down.
We valued ball as best as we could but several times options were just not there. We had too many attacking players running scared and not wanting the ball while others fought hard as they ran out of puff. We needed 2 goalers on the court particularly in the last quarter to win us the game and both goalers didn’t stand up to that pressure this week.
Our defense was just ok because we chased too much and stopped dictating. Our recoveries were low again with the only ball coming at the last minutes. We did a great job of delaying their play but they found a path on the 3rd second and we were too tired to pounce. The first half we had 29 recoveries and in the second half 15, a significant difference with our lowest count of 7 in the last quarter. We learn from this and have to LIFT and be RELENTLESS and INTENSE and DETERMINED to finish the game off and take the win.

A horrible start to the game with many lost opportunities. We got the ball into our goal third more times than the 5 goals we scored, we just turned over the ball with poor choices in leads and delivery. The 1st quarter score was 5 to 14. We had a huge score to chase.
When it was time to defend we were too slow and chased way too much. Every player had at tleast a contact with Robyn in WA all the way down the court contacting twice each. The contacts didn’t come from a deliberate attempt to slow up the ball but a lack of speed and ability to predict the pass and make another choice in defensive style.

We needed to start again and that was the reason we thought it was best to change the attacking line up around. Was this effective when we scored the same amount of goals as the first quarter?
Turnovers went through the roof with 11 coming from every player on the court except Jessie. We threw 8 turnovers from our GS to our C. We were put under alto of pressure but it was nothing that I think we cant handle.
To only throw 2 assists and 4 feeds in 12 minutes of netball tells us that we just weren’t able to penetrate the ball close to the circle edge. Our goalers didn’t stand a chance of producing the goal when they weren’t receiving the ball in our actual circle.
Defense stepped up, which showed our fighting spirit. Every player but Nellie in GS was responsible for a recovery (9) but clearly we were ineffective with converting that into a goal. This is something we need to continue to address.
Their GS shot all 10 goals for the quarter. Red did a great job keeping the GA contained but the strong bodied GS was getting the better of us and the pressure outside was not forcing a bad pass in to give Jess a sniff at a ball. We were being smashed 10 to 24.

A much better quarter from our attacking end getting the ball in 6 more times than in the 2nd quarter. We only went down by 1 goal in this quarter which was a much better team effort and reduced the score line 29 -40.
We were back to only 7 turnovers which came from all over the court, 2 from Jess in GK. Our WA and GA cleaned up their drives and made sure that they were productive with their delivery. The result of this was that the feeding came from all 4 attackers and the goalers were better placed for a shot.
Our recoveries were at the highest with 10, 4 of those being clean intercepts and 3 being rebounds from both ends. We cleaned up with defense but had 2 players not adjust to the 3 feet distance with Kym (2) and Red (3) falling shot and letting Rupo reset while they were put out of play.
Rupo only missed 1 shot and Jess was the defender to capitalize on that. The GS continued to be the main goaler and the C the main feeder. A strong quarter giving us the confidence to finish off in the last quarter.

We won this quarter 15- 8 but as the story goes, we left our run too late.
Unfortunately I was not witness to this great quarter but lucky for me I got to hear all about it. It was almost like we won a final. Just think if we can do this in one quarter imagine what we are capable of when we can get a good start and put 4 quarters together.
Minimise our turnovers = more goaling opportunities
Strong takes on our center pass = more feeds and assists
Ball on circle edge 21 times = ball delivered into our ring 21 times
20 attempts at goal = 15 capitalized and on put on the score board
9 gains = 9 times we get a second chance at it
All stats tell me that we got on top of them and had them scared but because they had grabbed an early lead they were never really at risk of losing the game.
Respectable finish and result 33 – 42. Well done.
Look at the attempts, we had 48 and they had 50. The game was there to be won but our goaling percentage cost us the game.

It was a goal for goal start before we had a 4 goal run and then a 3 goal run making the score 10 to 6 but we let them back in with missed goals and they took 3 goals from us brining the quarter score to 11- 10.
We did a good job of minimizing our turnovers valuing possession. Our center passes were not overly difficult with their C dropping back and Chloe being left with the run out. Chelsea delivered well and used Ciara in WA most of the time. The drives onto and around the ring were sharp and well thought out with a huge 17 feeds. Chloe was caught in a tussle with the GD and was pinned for a contact in our goal circle and this gave Rupo the extra opportunity to convert but the tight work to recover made it difficult for Rupo to clear our goal third.
Our goaling percentage was questionable with 6 missed shots and only 2 rebounds to recover to ball. Costly attacking turnovers with our goalers throwing all 4 meant that the pressure in the goal third from Rupo was tight and we weren’t making the right decisions at the right time to ensure a goal. 7 missed goals and 4 turnovers from Chloe and Tara meant that 11 balls were lost either from their pressure or from poor choices. We need to tidy this up for next week.
Our defense was hard fought out through the whole court. Chloe and Ciara intercepted 1 pass each exposing a rusty mid court of Rupo’s and a weakness in transition and Liz and Katie timed their intercepts perfectly taking 2 each. Maddy was kept a little quiet in WD and their WA was the main carrier of the ball into goals. The Ga shot 7 from 9 and the GS 3 from 3.

Liz Chloe 3
GS Tara/ Chloe GA Chloe/ Ciara WA Ciara/ Tayla C Chelsea/ Karlee WD Karlee/ Dels GD Liz GK Katie Bench: You work it out ;)
The only change initially made to the lineup was to bring Karlee on into WD. We didn’t start the quarter well with our first center pass being thrown away and that started Rupos 4 goal run. They shot 5 to our 2 before Chelsea took herself off the court as they were now leading 15 – 12. A clever move that gave us the opportunity to tweak the line up and get a different 7 in a match up that would be more effective. We went on to shoot 4 to their 3 but were really struggling in the goal ring before Tara called a time out and we changed our goaling line up. This was not effective and Rupo had the lead 17 -20.
Turnover count was still reasonable with 4, but 3 of those from our Center meant that Rupo’s experienced C was getting onto of us. We needed to minimize contact with our attacking player who was matched up with their C and expose the weakness in the WD position.
There were few center passes thrown this quarter indicating a quarter of ping pong netball. When the ball did eventually hit the circle edge our goaling let us down. Tata shot 1 from 4, Chloe 5 from 9 and Ciara 0. We were not shooting well enough to win this game and it was a problem. Lucky for us we are very quick to transition to defense and that pressure forced Rupo to throw a costly turnover. Tara had a gain, Chloe a rebound, 2 intercepts and a gain, that’s 6 recoveries including rebounds that gave us a second chance. Lucky because at the rate we were goaling we needed all the chances we could get.
Our mid court were kept quiet with recoveries but it was the tagging that was most effective. This gave Liz the space to come out and hunt in an unfamiliar position of GD and she recovered 2 intercepts, a gain and a rebound while Katie supported with 2 gains and 3 deflections. Rupo goaled much better than us but had no more opportunities than us. Both goalers shot 5 from 5 and only missed 3.

We won this quarter 9 – 6 through valued possession and hard fought defense. We shot the first 3 goals, they returned with another 3 goals, we shot 4 in a row, they shot 3 in a row and then it finished with us scoring the last goal bringing the score to 26 all at 3 quarter time.
Chloe was restricted to just one half so the attacking line up had to work. In attack the ball moved fast but finding a clear path was proving to be difficult. Rupo’s GK came out hunting and started working over Tara’s holds and this became a problem. We kept our cool and threw just another 4 bad passes which is acceptable considering the pressure.
Our center passes became a little difficult with a switch up in who received the pass. Ciara in GA took 4 center passes with Tay in WA just the 1 and Liz in GD taking 2. We became unpredictable but the steady hands and patience helped and the feeds and assists eventually came. Tayla was strong around the circle feeding in 10 balls and Karlee assisted with give and go passes. Our goaling percentage did improve but unfortunately we still had 4 misses and no rebounds.
Defensive pressure through the mid court stepped up and we got some stops before Rupo hit the circle edge. Karlee intercepted 2 good passes and Dels intercepted another 2 with a gain and a deflection. The pressure was starting to wear their less experienced line up down, as they too were effected by restrictions.
Liz was a little quiet in the 3rd quarter while Katie stepped up with 3 intercepts, a gain and an intercept. Their Ga was kept to converting 1 shot while the GS shot 5 from 5. With only 1 missed shot that didn’t give us any opportunity to rebound but keeping them to just 6 shots did the job.

Tay and Dels 2
We haven’t had such a low scoring quarter this whole season with a 5 to 3 quarter. This was a direct result of the ping pong quarter and the high volume of passes that were thrown in order to get a goal. We shot the first 3 taking an early lead and then they shot another 3. We were the lucky team to score the last 2 of the quarter.
Our turnovers increased to 5 all coming through the attack end. Tara had a coach killer with a step and Ciara threw 2 bad passes into Tara. Tayla turned over 3 balls with bad passes and 2 of those came from an umpire error.
Our center passes continued to be shared but this time Dels took 2, Tayla 2 and Ciara 1. We need to address this before our next encounter because we need our WA to be the players taking at least 50% of the center passes. The good news is that we were able to work through it and get the ball onto the circle with the same volume as the 3rd quarter. Tayla dominated the circle edge but our feeds don’t match up to our attempts. We had to move the ball around too much and this increased the chance of a turnover. Accuracy was the undoing of us with 5 converted shots and 4 missed goals. Again no rebounds, so 4 opportunities were lost.
Defense was tidy with very little whistle being used. The pressure after we turned over the ball was tight and this forced them to throw a big pass through to the center third. At just the right time Liz came through with 3 intercepts which in the end secured us the win however there was lots of good work being done around Liz’s 3 intercepts. Ciara and Tay with a gain, Karlee a gain and intercept, Dels and intercept and Katie a gain and an intercept. This pressure put their goalers under too much pressure and the result was 50% shooting accuracy.
We will surely win Round 13’s game if we do 2 things

Not a great start to the first quarter with a 3 goal difference and Wallan having the lead. We turned over the ball 5 times with 2 steps and a held ball adding to the 2 bad passes. At this level we should not be continuously turning over the ball with ‘coach killer’ mistakes.
The feeds onto the ring were shared between Kym and Sarah and this was because they were both cutting each other off on the sprint to the ring making it challenging for the goalers to pass a give and go. We needed to work the ball around the ring and Sarah was responsible for the assist that put the goaler under the post. Lauren and Georgia worked well together especially considering it was their first game together. Lauren took a bit to get her eye in shooting 4 from 7 attempts.
Defensively we contested hard being called for contacts and only 2 obstructions. This hard work caused Wallan to second guess passes and this gave us the follow through to deflect 6 passes. Sharna, Red and Kym were being rewarded for quick feet and 4 intercepts gave our goalers 4 extra opportunities. We needed these opportunities because Wallan was goaling very accurately with the GA shooting 9 from 9 and the GS 2 from 3 attempts.

The quarter started with Wallan shooting the first 4 goals, which clearly isn’t a good sign before an injury time was called and we tweaked the lineup. This had an immediate impact with Cats responding with 2 in a row.
A fatigued Georgia turned over the ball 3 times with her regular contact penalty. We lost the ball on a center pass with this contact so this is something we need to work on as it costs us a goal every time. Our center passes were difficult with 3 players having to help out in order to clear the center pass. The good news is that our feeds did manage to clear the ball after our ‘injury’ time out and we were hitting the ring. The combination of Robyn and Kym was more effective and timing was working much better. Lauren and Georgia were getting use to each other and this meant that inside our goal ring movement was better. Lauren still nervously shot 3 from 6 and Georgia stepped up and shot 6 from 8. Of the 5 missed shots Georgia recouped 1 with a rebound.
The whistle was the same up both ends and this is what gave our defenders consistency. Unfortunately our defenders didn’t match up with their goalers well and a change was needed. Jess matched the GS and Sarah the GD and the new pairing had an instant impact. We shot 2 in a row, then another 2 and 4 to finish the quarter. Jess was excellent with a gain, intercept and rebound while out in front Sarah took an intercept and a gain. Their goalers were kept to just 3 goals once we change our defensive structure.
In the mid court Kym was particularly strong in defense with 4 clean intercepts coming from the mid court and defensive end.

We had a good 3rd quarter with reasonably steady hands and a much needed improvement in our goal circle. No changes were made as we were starting to get into a rhythm and I felt that the line up on the court best matched Wallan, provided they didn’t make any changes.
We shot 10 to their 8 goals in an up and down scoring quarter. We needed to use all 3 attackers to clear the center pass and after a lot of on off work and resetting the goalers delivered. Kym was the dominate assisting the ball into the goalers and again regroup in defense to intercept 3 passes, 2 in the defense end and 1 in the mid court.
We were heavily penalized this quarter for contacts with every player on court being called for a contact. We are really good at switching to defense but we need to make sure that when we do contact it is during a fair contest for the ball. Knowing our umpires is important too because we don’t want to give our opposition the change to regroup of a whistle call rather than an advantage call.
We went a little quiet in the recoveries with Maighan causing 2 gains and Jess another 2, other than that we weren’t winning the balls that we needed to try and get a jump on Wallan.
We finally had a lead heading into the last quarter. 28- 27. The game was ours to win.

We shot 11 to Wallan’s 8, winning another quarter which was the decider in who took the 4 points.
I made a change with Sharna coming back on into GD because I felt that we became too predictable and the reduced recoveries from our circle defenders in the 3rd quarter meant that that was the area where we could improve.
We kept our turnovers to a respectable 5 with 2 coach killers with a step and a contact penalty. Our center passes were all sorted and we were only using our GA and WA. By just using our attacking players this meant that Lauren could come out of the ring and a mid courter could hit the circle edge for a more direct pass into the goals. Robyn and Kym continued to work well together and deliver the ball quicker to the goalers rather than holding onto the ball as they were doing in the first half. A tired Georgia ran through the fatigue to shoot 7 from 10 shots and Lauren well shot 4 from 5. Of the 4 missed goals we recovered 3 and this was the difference. Only 1 goal went missing.
Continued defensive pressure from the whole team seems to be what gets us out of trouble. Robyn took a well timed intercept and Kym another 3 intercepts. Sharna did get an intercept and gain when she returned to the court but she was being highly penalized particularly for obstructions. Jess was super strong under the ring taking 2 rebounds from the only 2 missed goals they shot. The change with Sarah taking Sharna’s position meant that the GA was kept quiet and went on to shoot only the 1 goal.

Not a great way to start the game with the umpiring dictating our attacking moves. 6 contact penalities were called on our goalers in the first quarter alone, giving Diggers 6 easy turnovers and an opportunity to score. There is nothing much our goalers could do other than to make a conscious decision to stop the fast breaks and not protect the shot under the ring. This had a huge impact on our attacking end finding a flow as they were trying many different ways to enter the circle or take a ball around circle edge but could not find a path that didn’t attract a whistle against them.
Thank goodness for our full court defensive pressure because this was the sole factor in ensuring Diggers didn’t get a jump on us. Every player but our WA received a gain with Katie timing her leads outside the ring perfectly to stop 5 balls through a direct intercept.

With the change of ends we were hoping that we could finally get some scoring opportunities and that our defenders were going to get the luck up the other end with the umpire calling a lot of attacking contacts on us in the first quarter. This was not necessarily the case.
Our attacking line up definitely had a better run at the ball but second guessing and fear of a whistle forced a few too many attacking bad passes. Karlee did an outstanding job in the mid court feeding in 10 passes and the goaler to goaler feeds is what turned their defenders heads and Chloe kept putting the shots up to score all 13.
We were heavily penalized for our man on man defense with 14 contact calls between our WD, GD and GK. We just couldn’t catch a break. Because Katie, Janelle and Maddy were constantly being out of play the recoveries were minimized to just 4 between them. Their Ga stepped up and took control of the goaling end shooting 11 of their 13 goals with not a single miss while their GS was rattled and shot 2 from 5 at 50%. We started the 3rd quarter with strong adjusted netball and we smashed it. We shot 9 to their 3 before Tayla had to come off the court with an injury. The readjustment took the run out of us and we only went on to score 7 more in the last 6 minutes of the quarter and they came from a goal to goal finish. Diggers shot 7 to our 16 and we made up for the 3 goal deficient at half time and had a 6 goal lead heading into the last.
Our turnover count remained high but judging Glenn’s stats they were majority ‘umpire’ calls which meant we failed to adjust again. A healthy amount of opportunities and strong feeds from Tayla meant that our goalers had an easier path to shoot from and the fear of the whistle left as we stopped protecting under the ring.
Defenders were back able to contest and they ran hard at the ball. 9 intercepts from our C down to our GK, coming majority from the defensive third. These opportunities early in the 3rd is what gave us the 6 goal run. The pressure was starting to get to Diggers goalers and accuracy became a problem. Our defenders were back not being able to man up and this created very few direct recoveries. They mixed up the defense with some space defending in the ring but it just wasn’t the right mix. We were not overly penalized but played out the last 15 minutes with a reserve. Amy in GA for Diggers found the goal ring again shooting 11 of their 15 goals and didn’t miss a shot while the GS drove out of the ring and delivered quite a bit of ball into Amy was kept to 4 from 5 attempts.
We were called for 2 crucial contacts in our circle adding to the 11 contact penalties we were called for during the whole game. The thing about todays game is that when we did get the ball in our ring we were not overly accurate missing another 5 and rebounding 2. Nervousness for the whistle didn’t make for a very nice game.

The ball went up our end much more with our 12 attempts at goal but we struggled to find the ring. Sarah dominated with her 9 feeds into goals and the low assist count tells us that the ball was fed in to a good position to shoot. Diggers did have a strong GD but we could still work around her and use our tall goaler.

I kept the same 7 players on the court in the hope that the last 4 minutes of netball was a reflection of what was to come. Things improved, slightly but it wasn’t the outcome we were hoping for. 6 of the 7 turnovers came from a bad pass. Our decision making was not ideal and things just weren’t working out.
Sarah found it easy to get out for the center pass and make a direct lead onto the circle edge for a quick give and go. Kym timed her leads better this quarter to work off Sarah and this made movement in our goal third more effective. Goaling reminded our biggest issue with both goalers shooting in the 50% range, giving 7 goals away through misses. Kaz tried to maintain a rebounding position without attracting the whistle but was only able to get 2 rebounds back.
We were highly penalized with contact calls with MAighs, Sharna and Jess all being stopped for 3 contacts each.. This allowed Diggers to be a player free and that meant less pressure on the pass or shot.
We were very light on with only 2 intercepts but the gains came through 3 feet pressure and tight manning up. 8 gains added to our 2 intercepts and 4 rebounds gave us 14 more opportunities to score. We threw 7 bad passes and missed 7 goals, wasting all 14 recoveries.

We valued the ball and reduced the turnovers to just the 5, with all 5 from the attack end. The center passes were at their highest and Georgia came out and helped out on 4 occasions. Considering Jess was sacrificed in defense and used as a goaler she did a great job to put the shot up (4) and follow up the misses. Jess rebounded 3 missed goals but converting those proved to be a problem.
Through our defensive pressure in the middle Jessie dominated her WA with 3 gains and Red continued to time her run out for an intercept better with 2 being snatched up in their goal third. Final Score Macedon 25 – Diggers Rest 27
Diggers Rest were coming off a one goal loss against Rupo last week so we knew today was going to be a tough game for us! Diggers were at 2nd spot and us a 3rd meant both teams were wanting win to make sure they kept their spots.
We started off strong – our defenders were working hard and getting us plenty of turnovers. Em R was on a tough appointment and did well to work her out straight away by playing off her. Our midcourt defence pressure was lacking little especially when the ball was turned over in our attacking end. It made it hard for both Em’s to apply pressure on the shooters when the ball was coming down the court so quickly.
2nd quarter was tough – we weren’t able to find our shooting circle, the GK was playing a tight defence on Susan so it was just a really hard quarter for the attackers and we just could not get any easy goals. We only shot 2 to their 7
3rd quarter we knew we had to step it up! We needed defenders to get the extra ball and we needed the shooters to get goals in! Nellie really stepped up in the quarter shooting the majority of the goals and always being available. This quarter was amazing, we scored 8 goals to their 2 and we went into the last quarter at a draw.
4th quarter we started off well then unfortunately we just couldn’t push on to finish the game. Our defenders worked hard to continually get us turnovers but we just could not convert!
A really tough well fought game and unfortunately we could not get the Win. We know we can get them next time if we
a) Good shooting – 25/34 goals at 73% accuracy – 9 misses but 4 rebounds – only 5 misses were turned over by Diggers but these came at a crucial time in the last quarter unfortunately
b) 21 bad passes – only 3 in our defensive end – the rest from the attacking end
c) Solid defence with 40 defensive recoveries – we got enough turnovers we just could not finish it off!

Lancefield played the first quarter with a floating style of defense and this made ball movement easy but our finishing off was not so successful with 4 missed goals and just the 1 rebound.
Our defensive recoveries came predominately through our circle defenders with 5 intercepts and 5 rebounds between them. They were heavily penalized with Katie being called for 3 obstructions and Dels 2 contacts. Collectively they were put out of play 9 times and Lancefield were a player up. They had 14 attempts at goals but with the pressure from Katie and Janelle there inaccuracy cost them shooting 7 from 14 attempts.

Wow, what a mess the second quarter was. Tara came off with the plan to get a speedy goaling ring happening for the 2nd quarter and Maddy replaced Dels as a stronger body could possible take the WA out of the play and possibly get us a few more recoveries.
With this line up came several errors in the first couple of minutes of play. We had a held ball on our first center, about 4 bad feeds into our goalers, early missed goals and our defenders were having to work over time to keep us in the game. With this line up and several errors, Lancefield did not catch us on the scoreboard but if this play continued we would be in trouble. A few minutes more hoping we would settle did not help because we continued to turnover the ball. A strategic injury time called by Tay and our attacking line up switched back to the first quarter line up. This had an instant impact and we went on to score 5 in a row giving us a 10 goal lead 27 -17. Chelsea was the dominate attacker moving the ball around the ring until she found a safe opening throwing 8 feeds and 4 assists.
The defensive pressure from all the Macedon players was significantly stronger than the first quarter, with every player recovering at least one ball. Statistically Janelle was kept quiet with just the one gain for the quarter but she kept her GA to 67%. Maddy and Katie drew most of the whistle with obstruction calls but the benefits came from the recoveries. Lancefield continued to shooting inaccurately even though their volume increase shooting 10 from 15 attempts.

A less than impressive 2nd quarter left us thinking about how we wanted to win this game. We had to improve our accuracy, increase goal volume, minimize turnovers and make sure that when the ball was recovered that we didn’t turn it over.
Accuracy did improve with Chloe shooting at 100% and Tara 80%.
Goal volume didn’t increase but remained steady.
We failed miserably with minimizing turnovers. Every player made a poor choice with a pass even discounting the fumbles and steps. 12 turnovers in our attacking end.
Whole court recoveries were not high. Our back line did all the work with Janelle taking 6 rebounds, 2 intercepts and a gain supported by Katie with 2 rebounds, 3 intercepts and 2 gains. Tay also snuck in there with a gain.
Their goaling remained extremely low with the GA shooting 4 from 8 and the GS 3 from 7. Of their 11 missed goals the defenders rebounded 8 of those.

We didn’t show much improvement from the 3rd quarter. We were at the non-scoring end, so we were prepared for this to have an effect on the score but we still could have fought through knowing what to expect from the last 15 minutes of the game.
It wasn’t pretty to play, watch or cheer for on the sit line. That is 2 games in a row where we have won comfortably on the score board but have come off the court feeling like we under performed. We initially started well and then let it slip with some poor drives and choices in the pass. These simple errors gave Lancefield a 3 goal run and then another 3 goal run. And this is when ‘chase mode’ started.
We were called for 4 steps in the first quarter with all of them being called in our goal circle. That means we handed them 4 balls, as they did not have to do any hard work to earn it. We MUST eliminate these coach killers from our game if we are going to be contenders for the finals.
Kaz in GS was always going to be a challenge for feeding and Kaz shooting but she played her role perfectly. Amy then swooped in for a front ball and had the free shot- that is until she hurt herself and we were forced to make a change with another unfamiliar line up in our attack end. A slightly unwell Georgia came onto the court and both teams shot 2 goals each.
In defense Robyn was costly attracting the whistle 8 times with 4 contacts and 4 obstructions mainly around the circle. The umpires clearly deemed this to be infringing so it’s important that we clean that up to avoid a caution. Sharna too found herself hunting too much and was put out of play high with 4 contacts leaving Sarah 2 on 1 in the ring. Lancefield capitalized on these opportunities shooting 11 from 12 goals.

We beat Lancefield 11- 10 in the second quarter but the one goal difference wasn’t near the 4 goals we needed but it was a start.
Our turnovers were through the roof with every player but Kaz taking 2 each. Georgia was called for 2 contact penalties (coach killers), Sarah 2 passes and a step, Kym a bad pass, Jessie and Sharna 2 bad passes each and Sarah the 1. That is a WHOPPING 11 chances to score that we gave up through poor execution and this is something we are practicing every week at training.
Center passes were not any problem for us and the ball seemed to be delivered onto our ring. The 8 assists tell the story of direct feeds to a goaler and a shot being the reward. We missed 5 goals but Kaz found the best rebounding space and took advantage of her height to rebound 4 of those back.
Defense was strong from our goal line back and this pressure forced Lancefield to turn over the ball. Georgia, Sarah and Kym all received 2 gains and Sarah (2) and Georgia (1) cleanly taking intercepts. In the back line Sarah was trying her best to reduce the amount of ball the tall GS was receiving but left alone in the circle meant an easy pathway for the feeders. The GS started shooting from further out and the result was inaccuracy with 3 missed goals. 18 -21, we were still close.

We reduced the turnover count from the 2nd quarter but it was still too high on 7, especially with all 7 turnovers coming in our attack. Add those 7 with 6 missed goals and there is another 13 potential goals.
Getting out for the center passes were becoming difficult and Red in GD was needed on 4 occasions. That is not the role of a defender and if our attackers are not going and getting the ball off our center passes, what are they doing or where are they… Feeds were strong and Sarah made sure that she landed around the circle edge to get a better view into the ring. Nellie really struggled to find the right space and the right time and this left Kaz holding up the goal circle. Kaz did a great job shooting all of our 7 goals and rebounding 3 of her 4 missed shots.
We were back up the non-scoring umpire end and adjustments were not made. 19 stops at play coming mainly through defense that was not 3 feet. Red and Sarah were clean on contacts but gave it away with Red being called for 6 obstructions and Sarah and Em 2. The reward didn’t come through recoveries with Em and Kym in the mid court collectively recovering 5 balls between them,
Lancefield put up 15 shots to our 13 but converted just 11 to our 7. ‘Chase mode’ again.

WOW what a quarter, so I hear. Unfortunately I didn’t have the pleasure of watching the 12 minutes that changed the world. Without watching the game, statistically I can see where we won the game so here it is.
We only gave up the ball 2 times!
Center passes were received by our attacking players and dominated by our WA.
10 feeds from Sarah and 7 from Kym gave us a clear path into the goal circle.
All 4 players assisted with a safe pass under our goal ring.
Volume/ conversion was 13 goals to us and although we had another 10 attempts at goal, they weren’t on 10 separate occasions. They were shots taken and rebounded straight after and then missed again…
5 clean recoveries from Kym alone and just the 1 bad pass didn’t undo all her hard work.
Lancefield only had 5 attempts at goal and shot just the 2.
8 straight goals to start the quarter followed by 5 more gave us the 4 goal win.
FOLLOWING UP LAST WEEKS ‘NEED TO IMPROVE ON’ LETS CHECK WHERE WE ARE AT
Steps – 5 Contact penalty -2 fumble- 2 Bad passes – 18 Over 1/3 – 1 = 27 turnovers
35 center passes – 38 goals
27 contacts, 27 obstructions = 54 whistles against us
14 deflections - 24 recoveries- 21 rebounds = 45 recoveries
We have to stop undoing all our hard work!

We were up against another good side today, Lancefield are sitting at 5th and us at 3rd so it was a must win game for us! We played a solid 3 quarters but in the last we just could not finish it off. 7 bad passes in the last quarter and missed shots were not ideal but luckily our defenders still worked hard and kept the pressure on Lancefield and they were only able to shoot 3 goals.

We didn’t get off to a good start with missed goals and turnovers very early in the first quarter. Our very first center pass was thrown away and following that was a missed goal and then a turnover. We were forcing feeds into Tara and not releasing the ball high enough.
We only had 5 turnovers but adding the 4 missed goals to the mix meant that 9 opportunities were lost. We also played around with the ball too much and worked way too hard to find a clear feed into the ring. This wasted time and took away from the direct play that we showed against Romsey.
The defensive line up made sure that Melton didn’t get a quick score getting the recovery we needed to make up for our mistakes. We certainly applied whole court defense with every player on the court getting their hands to a recovery. In the mid court Ciara took an intercept, Chelsea took 2, Maddy 3 and Janelle 1, we certainly applied pressure. Their goalers worked smart on the base line and with quick head dodges they took close shots and were very accurate shooting 14 from 15.
Strategically, 8 minutes into the first quarter Tara called an ‘injury’ time. At this point we were down 6 -7, with no goaling runs. The change did not have an instant impact with Melton continuing to score and having a 4 goal lead on us 13- 9 and that was when the team decided to put their foot down and play netball. We had a 7 goal scoring run bringing the score at half time to 16 – 14. We only had a 2 goal lead.

We came out fighting in the 2nd quarter after a small spray from the coaches. We shot the first 5 goals before Melton managed to get their 15th goal on the board. The change to our attack end meant that we were going for a faster quicker attacking line up, rather than a taller longer attacking end.
We were very safe in attack with only 3 turnovers but the tradeoff was a lot of possessions. 58 feeds and assists to score just 21 goals, which is a lot of work and shows that we were not so direct in our drives and positioning. That being said it was important that we had a safe clear shooting position where Melton’s tall defenders did not impact on accuracy. It was clearly effective because we shot the highest amount of goals in the second quarter compared to the other 3 quarters.
Our defense was tight attracting a whistle 9 times equally with obstructions and contacts. Melton were certainly deprived of ball through their attack end shooting only 4 goals from 7 attempts. We didn’t seem to get many direct recoveries through the court but the tight pressure allowed our circle defenders to mop up. Janelle was outstanding with 3 deflections, 2 gains and 3 intercepts and Katie equally as good with 2 deflections, 4 gains, 2 intercepts and a rebound.

Our team goal of 70 goals for the game was always going to be a challenge with what looked like a completely new line up. We didn’t start very strong considering how we finished the 2nd quarter. The turnovers came through our attacking work and penetrating our goal circle was difficult. The change to Melton’s defensive line up and game play took us by surprise and our less experienced line up threw right into their hands.
Unfortunately Tara’s eye just wasn’t in and because the umpire allowed the GK to defend closer than expected her accuracy suffered shooting at 57%. Because of this, Tara took a hit for the team and called another injury time before we went on to score 5 more goals. We score 11 goals for the quarter which matches our center pass receives- so what happened to our recoveries?
The umpire slowed down our defensive work with a massive 17 calls against us. Maddy in C was called for 5 contacts and Katie back in GK another 5. We just weren’t allowed to contest and we were struggling with what style of defense to play that didn’t attract a whistle. The hesitant defense reduced our recoveries to 9. Melton had more attempts at goal than us in the 3rd quarter with 16 but missed 5 goals equaling our 11 goal quarter. We didn’t manage to rebound a single missed goal. Briarley in WD was yet to recover a ball but with her long reach over the pass caused a few turnovers deep in their goal third but hesitation and fear of the whistle kept our score low.

We were all over the place this quarter. The game became really boring to watch and to play. Our defenders were a little quiet, Janelle drawing no whistle and Katie just the 1 call against her. The defensive recoveries came from bad on timing and 10 intercepts went our way. Ciara and Chelsea had 3, Briarley on the board with 2 and Janelle and Katie 1 each.
Their goaling circle shot accurately with the GS shooting at 100% with 8 from 8 and their GA shooting 4 from 4. Fear of the whistle and the new GS, who had warmed into her second half position meant that they capitalized on every opportunity.
Feeds were a little more direct but 7 turnovers cost us 7 goals and kept us to 16 goals for the quarter, roughly 1 a minute. We were looking tired with our eyes down and with no energy on and around our court, it was hard to stay motivated. We pulled through and took the win 64- 41.

We played a much more dignified quarter going down 7 to 8 but our fight was there. Another goaling combination and mid court combination was again another challenge we shouldn’t have had to face but nothing was proving to be a working combination. Feeds and assists were significantly better than our 2nd quarter but inaccuracy was our blocker. We missed 5 goals and rebounded just the 1, giving up 4 opportunities to narrow the score line.
We were heavily penalized particularly in their goal circle with Kaz being called for holding when I believe there was nothing in it. This pressure did cause inaccuracy in the GS which is where we had to work harder to shut them down. They shot at 100% in the 2nd quarter and with another change in defense we kept them to 50% and 67%. There was a small window of hope.
The balls that we defensively worked for came through gains and rebounds, there was only 1 intercepted taken for the quarter. We won a quarter 9 -8!!!!!!
Our delivery from the center to the goal circle and then into goals was a lot cleaner. Georgia stepped up and took control of the goal circle and this was the reason why we managed to score some goals. Georgia and Maighan took percentage shots and made sure that they protected for each other. Sarah continued to be the main feeder and our center played a secondary role. It was the turnovers that killed us again. Individual players are becoming too costly averaging 3 turnovers a quarter. When more than one player throws 3 a quarter the stats really rack up.
The whistle was light on in the last quarter and this meant we were put out of play less often. Kaz back in GK was eliminating the easy run in their goal ring and Sarah was there for back up. Kaz dominated with 3 gains, 1 intercept and 2 rebounds. She kept her GS to 50%, only scoring the 2 goals.

We knew today was a start of 3 weeks of tough games so we had to have a good start! Our start was slow and we made far too many mistakes, we will not capitalising on turnovers and we ended up being 3 goals down. We knew in the second we really had to work hard in defence to get a lot of ball for our attackers. We started off really strong but then faded out at the end to let Melton back in. Our attackers were really finding it difficult to feed into the circle and it became very chaotic! In the 3rd we had a change up and we seemed to settle better and we finally pulled away. We finished off the game really strong with a 9 goal streak to win by 11 in the end. Well done girls.

We had some solid defense, great movement/ drives and accurate shooting in the first quarter to give us a handy lead by 5 goals. Our strong defense continued into the second quarter, however the penalties for contact and obstruction were high. Our goaling was accurate again for an 8 goal lead at half time. We dropped of a bit in the third quarter only winning the quarter by 1 goal. This may have been due to the wet conditions. Passes were difficult to handle which caused fumbles and turnovers. Intercepts in the third quarter kept Melton at bay and we lead by 9 going into the final quarter. The fourth quarter was our messiest quarter. We lacked movement in attack and our passes and passing options were poor. 7 bad passes in this quarter due to lack of movement. The start to our first quarter is the reason why we didn’t hit our goal of 100 goals.

We scored off our first center but then due to some silly errors and umpiring calls Romsey hit back with a straight 3 goals. Everyone fought hard in attack and defense and neither team was able to pull away. Towards the end of the quarter Cats had a 3 goal run brining the score back to 12 all.
The walls style of press they created on our centers set us a small challenge but with assistance from behind we were able to patiently work our way around it and break through to our goal third. There were several possessions taken while we worked the ball to a safe place to feed and when the moment presented the feeds came. Tara held extremely well and converted 8 from the 9 attempts and Chloe assisted in the back with 4 from 6 goals.
Defensive pressure came from all areas of the court with Tara taking a rebound and an intercept while everyone else manned up working hard on the opposing player. Janelle manned tight while Katie worked the very tall and experience Hope for an intercepts and a gain. Due to their accurate goaling we needed to step up the defensive pressure to force Romsey to make a turnover. Hope shot 8 from 9 and Chelsea 3 from 4. They were the more accurate shooting pair. 12 all

We came on and shot the first 2 goals before it was a goal for goal quarter, Romsey made 2 changes in what I can only think of being an attempt to mix it up and find another formula. The changes had no effect on us and we went on to shoot 3 in a row and then another 3 to finish the quarter off. We came home strong with a 6 goal lead heading into half time.
We minimized our turnovers and gave Romsey very little opportunity to score. With 3 mistakes and the unfortunate 5 missed goals, Romsey had a look in 8 times. Our full court pressure was too strong and our contesting was even better. Every player but the GS and GA received at least one recovery. Our back line were relentless with Chelsea taking 2 intercepts, Karlee 1, Janelle 1 intercept and 3 gains and Katie and intercept and a gain. Whatever we lost we had returned.
Very strong feeding and reworking the circle edge between Chelsea and Ciara meant between them they had 16 feeds. 9 assists came from our WA and 4 from goaler to goaler. Chloe’s work rate was very high, having to try and distract a defender to open Tara up. This pressure on Chloe forced a few goals from long range and 5 missed opportunities. Outscoring Romsey 14 to 8 meant that we had an opportunity heading into the second half.

Line up unchanged heading into the second half. We didn’t want to change our game plan too much as what we were doing was working, but we needed to be aware of predictability and make sure that if Romsey came onto the court with a new game plan that we adjusted very quickly. The score line 36-33 tells us that we let Romsey back into the game but we held our lead against a strong second half team and that was more important.
We turned over the ball 8 times directly in attack with 3 missed shots included, as we didn’t rebound them. We had a small lapse in concentration but all players on court kept their cool and just tweaked what needed tweaking to continue on dominating their opposition. The fade out came in the 5th minute where Romsey had a 4 goal run but another ‘6 player change’ when they were 1 down, gave us the kick up the butt and we went on to score 4 in a row immediately.
We were heavily penalized for contacts in the 3rd quarter with 11 being called against us but it was genuine contesting and letting the opposition know that we were they that was wearing them out. Their taller and bigger goaler Amelia came on into GA and this seemed to give them more ball in the ring so it was important that the defense was done outside. GA shot 7 from 8 and Hope shot 7 from 7. They put up the same amount of shots as us but were more accurate. They won this quarter by 2 goals but we still had a 4 goal lead heading into the last.

All we needed to do was hold our lead with patient attack, strong full court defense and accurate shooting and it all came together.
We had a high volume of possession but this is what won us the game. We backed each other up and made sure that everything was in our hands and that we never waited for a whistle. We valued the ball with only 3 turnovers and our center passes became mush easier with Ciara in WA taking most of them. Our goaling combination although the same players mixed it up with Tara holding strong close to the base, attracting 2 defenders and Chloe sprinting the front cut for a quick one two. Chelsea and Ciara worked it until they were comfortable enough to feed in a sure thing, using each other to reset on several occasions. Tara shot confidently with 5 from 5 and Chloe certainly didn’t let anyone down shooting 9 from 10 attempts.
Karlee and Chelsea stepped up the pressure and scrambled for ball playing a very tight one on one defense. This meant Janelle and Katie would work the space and their player trying to give the illusion of space. When Romsey thought it was open a ‘lose’ Katie came through and a tight one on one defender in Janelle backed it up making sure that her player was not an option.
We proved that we are RELENTLESS, INTENSE AND UNITED in this game. With this all combined we are UNSTOPPABLE.

What is becoming part of our game is our lack of ability to choose the right pass to the right player and deliver. Our attacking combinations just don’t seem to have a connection and this is what is turning over a huge amount of ball.
We received our center passes ok, we shot accurately, assists mainly came from Ga to GS but the mid court are involved. The fundamental issue is all the work outside the ring and brining the ball down court.
Our defensive pressure came mainly through our WD, GD and GK. Red recovered 3, Sharna 5 and Kaz 1 but the recoveries are simply being undone when attacking the ball.
Kaz and Sharna did a great job in their ring forcing 4 missed shots and rebounding 3 of those but the stat that stands out is that the GS did have 12 opportunities to convert.
Generally a poor first quarter equaling a poor result, training 9 -10.

Overall our changes worked because we built up a lead of 5 goals heading into the second half. This came from our shooting run of 2 goals, then 3 goals, then 5 goals. No single goals shot all quarter. This should have painted a picture for the last half…
Speedy sharp attacking work delivered the ball to our goalers. Bianca in WA had an instant impact especially with feeds and assist, unfortunately what should have been a thrashing, if our goalers were accurate was just a small lead of 5. 11 missed goals is what we should be aiming for a game, not a quarter.
Whole court defensive pressure picked up with every player but Amy receiving a gain. Bianca had 2 intercepts, Kym had 2 intercept, Red took 2 gains, Sharna 2 intercepts and Kaz 3. That is a lot of return for hard defensive work. Another reason why the score line should have pushed out even further.

Back to 8 turnovers, that cannot be good. Kym and Bianca responsible for all but 1. Whether or not someone presented it was their jobs as feeders to make sure that they only passed a ball to an available player. The work delivering the ball was an issue and the goalers receiving it was also shut down. Instead of working the ball to the circle edge and moving our goalers with fake passes and resets, we struggled to work the ball that deep before we turned it over. Both teams shot 8 goals and we still had a 5 goal lead heading into the last quarter.
Statistically this quarter looked the mirror image of the first quarter and we all know how effective that was. Amy needed to help out more out front being shut down early on with on paper 3 assists and just the 1 shot converted. Kym looked to have a good defensive game but her attacking was not as complimentary with only 2 feeds and an assist for the quarter. The attacking work simply wasn’t sharp or dynamic.
Red went missing in WD with the speedy WA back on and she was in chase mode, Sharna deflected 4 balls but only had 1 gain for the quarter. Jess D in the back line held us up with 3 gains and 2 intercepts. Lucky for us they only converted 8 of their 10 shots because they really could have stamped us out of the game in this quarter.

We wanted a good start and that what we did! Q1 with 10 recoveries, 95% shooting & hardly a turnover for a 15-goal lead. Defence continued in Q2 for 13 recoveries & attackers taking advantage well for a 27-goal lead. The momentum taken through to Q3 with goalers 100% effective but a few turnovers let Romsey in for some cheap goals, a 34-goal lead. Great skills continued in Q4 with only 1 shot getting away, bagging the last 9 goals of the game to win comfortably by 43 goals. When we have a good start we know we build well from that! Great effort today girls!
a) Fantastic shooting for 58 goals at 88% accuracy with only 8 misses
b) Only 20 turnovers total including just 15 bad passes. We had a lot of possession so this was not too bad
c) Great defence with 45 defensive recoveries including 20 intercepts, 18 gains & 7 rebounds.

It was a solid game against Romsey with a final score lead of 28 goals. We worked on our movement and passing at training and it showed in this game. We had a good clean start which dropped off throughout the game but that was due do fatigue and leads that were not strong enough or did not show the thrower where you wanted it or if you wanted it. There was a sense of urgency and a high intensity at the start of the game, which diminished by the last quarter. Overall a good solid win, we just have to push through the whole game with the intensity we had in the first quarter. This game was a huge improvement compared to last week.
- Goalers let 11 misses get cleared by Romsey, which is a wasted opportunity for a huge score.
- 16 bad passes in 2nd half

We got off to a great start scoring 8 goals before Rockbank put 1 goal on the board. Although we hung onto the ball a little long, when it was released it still made it to hands and into our goal ring. Strong work around the ring and on the circle edge gave Tara great scoring opportunities and she didn’t disappoint.
Whole court defensive pressure was strong making it very hard for Rockbank to move the ball from a center pass or a rare turnover. Every player but Tara directly caused a turn over. I state directly because the pressure that Tara applied allowed the players behind her to capitalize on that.
The pressure applied from the transverse line down gave Janelle, Katie and Tayla the opportunity to hunt for a ball. All gains taken from our defenders was a direct result of the pressure their team mates provided up front. It was a huge team effort for Katie’s 6 recoveries and 4 deflections, Janelle’s 4 intercepts and 4 deflections and Tayla’s tip, gain and intercept.
When Rockbank did get a scoring opportunity the pressure over the shot threw the GS off with Rockbank scoring as many as they missed (4).

Rockbank made a few changes to their line up and we took a little while to adjust. Our leads weren’t being covered but the space defense was causing our attackers to take a wide birth which left the person with the ball no options. We were patient with the ball but it slowed up our opportunity to score a quick goal. Rockbank made sure that when they contacted us, that we felt it.
Tara remained strong and confident in the goal ring shooting another 13 goals with only 1 miss and was also a strong rebounding force recovering 4 balls from a rebound. Chloe started front cutting Tara and opening up the goal circle, giving the feeder another option. With that front cut Chloe then became a feeder to Tara and shooting when needed.
The defensive pressure through the middle was hot and cold. Sometimes we delayed the passes with hand over pressure and at other times Rockbank were quick to send that ball down court. Because Sarah’s eyes were up and she was ‘watching’ the ball came down court she was able to recover 3 intercepts. While Janelle gave chase to the zippy GA keeping her out of the circle, when she did get the ball in a decent shooting position the pressure that was applied early forced an inaccurate shot shooting 2 from 5.
Katie had to work around the solid GS and play off the body in order to get hands to the ball. The GS shot accurately with 5 from 5 but was starved of shooting opportunity from the pressure to keep her around the outside of the circles edge.

More tweaks to Rockbanks line up meant that a mid-court press that moved to a goal third press had an effect on our new line up. We changed our goalers in the third quarter to give Tara a break from being beaten up in the goal circle and with the thought of bring her back on for the last quarter. I thought a fast goal ring may break away from the physical nature of their defenders. This was not as effective as I would have liked.
Our mid court was a little too inexperienced to match a physical and smart Rockbank. A massive amount of turnovers with 5 from our center, 2 from WA, GA and 1 from GS meant that we were giving up the ball too easily and not providing scoring opportunities.
As the game hit the second half I feel the umpires started tiring and watching only the flight of the ball, leaving the players not involved in direct play having to fight hard for their standing space. This was taking a toll on our decision making and ability to take a hit.
There was more whistle in their goal circle giving Rockbank a few extra shots with 11 opportunities but the follow up and dominance of our defense didn’t tired and the result was 11 recoveries and 5 deflections.

So the unusual line up was due to injuries players were starting to feel. While Tayla wasn’t too keen to take the court with a sore ankle, I thought we needed to try and get 5 minutes out of her to open up our scoring line. First given C, we then reassessed and thought WA was a better option with Ciara taking the C bib. The plan was for Ciara to assist in bring it into the center third and then throwing long to Tayla to then move the ball directly into the goalers. This was very effective until Tayla gave the signal that she couldn’t play any longer. Bianca then took the WA bib to finish off the game.
Chloe was responsible for 3 bad passes but they came from decent passes to an injured Tayla and a less experienced Bianca both running deep into the pocket. Considering the amount of possession Chloe had in the last quarter it was impressive to share the goaling and following up with strong rebounding.
Like the quarters before our strong team defense was the result of 8 recoveries from our WA down to our GK. In their circle Janelle and Katie swapped a lot more than the previous 3 quarter and this allowed for quick feet and 9 deflections, slowing up a second opportunity for Rockbank to convert. Rockbank did however have their highest amount of attempts for the game with 15 attempts, converting only the 5. They had no main feeders having to work off the circle edge and carry a lot of ball before an attempt was made.
A solid, physical game that was won well but we need to learn how to win games and enjoy the win.

We didn’t start our best, turning over the ball early in the first quarter with poor decision making but the defensive pressure from our team put Rockbank under a lot of pressure and forced them to make a poor choice too and we were there to mop up.
Our defensive pressure particularly from our WD down gave us every chance to make up for our errors. Jessie intercepted 1 ball, Kym was responsible for 2 gains, Sharna 2 clean intercepts and a rebound and Kaz 3 strong rebounds. Rockbank had several attempts at goal with 11 but because our circle defenders forced them to put up a far shot when they missed we were there for 4 of those missed shots.
In the first 12 minutes of the game Sarah was not making the right choice in a lead and that put her pass under too much pressure and forced her to take more possessions than needed. When Sarah did get the ball on the circle edge she delivered well to our goalers and they didn’t disappoint.

Kym and Red did a positional swap in an attempt to assist with bringing the ball into our attack end a little easier because this is where we were having the most trouble. Sarah later called time with an injury with Robyn replacing her.
We shot the first 7 goals before Rockbank scored their first goal and then we went on to shoot the remaininf4 before the ½ time siren. That makes us sound like we were playing well but unfortunately that was not the case. We had a massive 13 turnovers all through bad passes. Georgia was the only player on the court to not throw a bad pass. Indecisive drives and not releasing the pass was where the 13 bad passes came from. We were all working our butts off to apply defensive pressure we simply were not rewarding this work through how we as a team attacked the ball.
Defensively we were great with everyone on court but the GA recovering a ball. The pressure we applied gave us gains and not intercepts. This indicates to me that we had hands over ball pressure. The GA shot the only goal and the GS missed all 4 shots.

Kym came on to give Jessie a well-earned rest and towards the end of the quarter Jessie was starting to suck in the air and Jess came on again this week to follow up a solid performance from last week.
Bad passes still too high particularly from our main feeder in the WA, both Kym and Robyn seemed to be handling the ball equally so it is important that the right decision is made to the right lead.
Amy stepped up in the goal circle making a more obvious drive and fixing her standing position to look more available for a feed from our circle players. Georgia took the ball more outside the ring opening it up for Amy to drive and good team work and an understanding of ball placement gave Georgia 3 assists to Amy.
Defense again remained strong and an inexperienced Rockbank gave up the ball. Kym was especially defensively strong with 3 recoveries and 2 tips and then with hands over pressure from Red and Sharna, Jess was left out the back to clean up with 2 gains, 2 intercepts, 1 rebound and a tip. We cleaned up our turnover count but it’s what we did with the possession that counted. The ball made it into our goal circle but inaccurate shooting is what let us down and didn’t add the points on the boards. I was not present for the last quarter to account for why so many missed goals but I can only assume physical pressure and umpires playing the advantage, not giving us the opportunity to settle.
Defense was tight from our goal circle down again, this is really important because as we hit the more challenging teams we need to know how to claw our way out with strong team defense.
Sharna was the stand out with 4 clean intercepts and 4 rebounds making sure that Rockbank didn’t get a sniff. Rockbank shot 4 from 9 attempts with very few opportunities.

A great first quarter with defenders getting a lot of ball, our shooters let a few gear away but we finished off with a 2 goal lead. Defenders got caught out hunting in Q2 but attackers stepped it up with efficient direct feeds & goal assists to take control for a 6-goal lead. Full court pressure in Q4 yielded 4 timely intercepts & attackers still moving well for an 8-goal lead. A few feeding problems in Q4 but tight defence for 9 recoveries & accurate shooting for a well-deserved 10-goal win.

We started off well defensively but could not capitalize. Defensively we had 7 intercepts and 3 gains but we could not effectively get the ball into attack to convert. This was mainly due to not putting the ball into space and lack of leads. Messy start but we managed to keep the scores level at 7 all. The second quarter was very much the same. Defensively we dominated but going into attack we threw away 8 bad passes. Again this was due to lack of leads/movement. We did manage to get up by 4 goals by the end of the second quarter. The third quarter was our slowest quarter. The main problem in this quarter was the movement from the goalers. They could not get in front of their players and get into a good position to shoot. This forced the wings to over feed into the circle. This many passes caused turnovers and it showed in our score line. We only scored 5 goals this quarter. Defensively again we were strong and luckily only kept them to a 3 goal quarter with put us up by 6 goals. Our 4th quarter was our strongest and cleanest. We finally started to lead which lead to less bad passes and turnovers. We were more efficient in attack and the goalers were effective in their movement and there accuracy for a 14-goal quarter. We finished the game up by 15 goals.

Another unfamiliar line up but considering the result last time we played Woodend I knew it was a lineup that would still be effective. The adjustments mainly needed to be made in our defense end as that is where the ‘new’ combinations were being trialed. We ran away with the score in the middle of the 1st quarter after a pretty bad first 5 minutes.
The volume being delivered into the goal third was extremely high with over 71 touches in the goal third. When we play a lower level side we need to minimize the work load and be more effective on delivery and accurate on the shots, this is how we best utilize the clock and our fitness level.
Considering the amount of possession we had 8 turnovers isn’t too bad. It is on the high side but not when you consider the amount of times we received possession and that 3 of those turnovers came from bad passes out our defense end.
Defensive pressure was strong through the mid court into their goal third with every stop coming from Chelsea, Tay and Katie. We built on the 20 goal start with 22 goals being shot in the second quarter and for the 4 missed goals 3 were recovered in rebounds, a very effective goal circle. The feeds shifted from WA to C with Tay and Ciara setting up ball for each other with Tayla even setting a screen for Ciara. Chloe remained in there with assists (5) but Ciara delivered most of the balls into the goalers as they were setting up good holds and drive.
Defensively Sarah got a little more involved getting her hands to recoveries with 2 intercepts, a gain and a rebound, this allowed Katie to sit back and hunt for the 5 strong intercepts she took. Because the pressure was mounting up and the workload that was needed to get the ball in a safe shooting position Woodends goaling suffered. Ga shot 5 from 9 attempts and the GS 4 from 6, Katie and Janelle were doing their job well. We were 1 goal down on reaching our target of 20 goals and our attacking end started turning over ball again. All 7 turnovers came from bad passes and bad hands of Chloe, Ciara, B and Chelsea. There is a small excuse of a change in line up but Woodend were also fatiguing so we needed to put the foot down and run off with the win.
Center passes proved to be a little tricky with WA and GA almost sharing the load but the second phase count with feeds and assists tell us that more work needed to be done to get to circle edge or to a clear goaler. 5 missed goals and 2 rebounds meant that 3 goals went unanswered but with the umpiring missing calls and hits, it was difficult to make adjustments.
Through the mid court we had another line up with Bianca taking the court. It took a little time to adjust to the timing of passes and drives but once we did adjust there was some very fluid ball movement. Tay and Chelsea were especially strong through the middle with 6 recoveries between them.
Sharna did a great job of chasing the GA down with only 1 intercept but keeping her to just putting up 6 shots which is 3 less than every other quarter she played. Katie came out hunting this quarter and the result was that she was penalized more than the first half but the reward came with the 3 gains, 3 deflections and 3 intercepts she worked hard to cause.

Their goaling increase dramatically with 18 goals being shot and converting 11. We are very lucky that we had the game firmly in our hands because statistically it didn’t look overly pretty.
8 rebounds, 4 from Katie and 4 from Tara meant that we were clearly dominating under the ring but we need to use these games as shooting practice and not give them the opportunity to even get a sniff.

8 turnovers in the starting quarter does not reflect well on our training and ability to connect on the court. Defensively we switch on straight away and this is our biggest strength. Amy was the only player without a recovery for the quarter demonstrating our tight one on one pressure. 14 recoveries with 8 gains again demonstrates what hand over ball pressure can create.

We stuck with our line up to give the 7 players a chance to continue what they were building on. Finding each other on the court was not a problem is was accuracy in goals that let us down. Instead of building another 6 goals to our score line we turned it over and only rebounded 1 missed shot. Stats look good for the delivery of the ball with Sarah in WA dominating the feeds and assists as she should in WA but it was how we rewarded the work that didn’t pay off.
We continued to be heavily penalised with contacts and obstructions but that was part of the clumsy game of netball Broadford were playing. We perhaps needed to read the play a bit better and play off the opposition in order to look like we were cleanly coming through for the ball.

Considering this was practically a new team they did a great job and coming on and having an impact. I would have expected a few more turnovers and handling errors but that wasn’t the case. Sure Broadford had been given a good run and was tired but it is hard to take the court and instantly deliver.
The increase of scoring opportunity was an obvious help with 12 converted shots although with 4 missed goals and only 1 rebound, we could have built on that score. Robyn dominated the C passes taking all 7 out front and Em helped out on 2 occasions.
We were cleaner in defense with only 5 penalties compared to the 2nd quarters 13. This allows a flow to occur and keeps the umpires attention somewhere else. Everyone on court were responsible for a direct recovery, again emphasizing that whole court pressure is our strength.
There wasn’t a lot of work to be done in their goal third as we were forcing the ball out of court with 9 deflections, although I would like to see them become intercepts especially if Em stops playing dead arm ;) (Em and Jess with 3 each).
Broadford did convert 7 shots, which was the highest for the game but they only had 11 attempts. Of the 4 missed shots none were rebounded. The score line was out 34- 16.

After the last few weeks of slow starts we wanted to make an effort to really start well. Our attackers did a great job of coming out and attacking the ball and getting into a good feeding position. We got 7 recoveries in the first but knew that there was so much ball we were missing. In Q2 we used the ball really well and really pushed out our lead. Q3 was probably our worst of the whole game, we made a lot of errors, defenders were getting a lot of turnovers but we just could not finish it off. We reset at the break and came out and had an impressive Q4. We had 100% shooting in this quarter and 11 recovers in the defensive half!
It was really good to see that what we did in training this week worked well on the court. Our attacking was far better than previous weeks.
a) Fantastic shooting this week – 56 goals at 81% accuracy with 13 misses but 8 rebounds for a 92% effectiveness!
Amy Gooch – 32/37 – 86%
Simonne Collins – 9/13 – 69%
Nellie Wilson – 15/19 – 79%
b) 16 turnover for the whole game – most of this coming in Q3 – something we need to be aware of
c) Great defensive pressure with 21 intercepts, 15 intercepts, 2 gains
Great win in the end!
Final score: Macedon 56 – Broadford 12
It was an easy win against Broadford today. We used this game to practice things we had been working on at training s well as increasing our percentage. Our accuracy was good today with 72% accuracy from the goalers. Our defensive strength continues to improve and this is what keeps us close with the stronger teams and gets us intercepts. We had been working on transitioning from attack to defense and defense to attack and our transitions were great. The tremendous pressure by the attackers was great and we recovered quickly. We had better ball control and better deliveries into the goalers. Great defensive game with 42 defensive recoveries. Our attackers stood out today with their huge amount of feeds and assists and made better use of the circle which aided them in delivering a good ball into the goalers. There were 6 turnovers due to footwork issues- 4 stepping, 1 offside and 1 centre break. These are little things we need to take out of our game because a stronger team will capitalize on them. Overall a solid game and an easy win. Final score 47-5.

A strong defensive effort with 12 recoveries but our ability to capitalize was where we became a little unstuck. Our attacking end was a little stagnant and we were turning over the ball through repeat moves. We crossed over the goal circle too many times and gave them the opportunity to pick off a ball.
Riddell did not shoot too accurately missing 6 shots, this gave us the constant ball that we needed to give us another crack at scoring. 5 strong rebounds shared by Janelle and Katie showed the Riddell goalers that a miss would be costly. Riddell also struggled to find a path through their WA because Briarley just shashed her. 5 recoveries and 2 deflections is an outstanding stat stopping the ball through the mid court.
The volume of feeds and assists was extremely high meaning that we played around with the ball too much before we took a shot. We needed to find a more direct path into goals to avoid the chances of turning over the ball.
Although we held a 5 goal lead it wasn’t one that we were comfortable with as we were yet to hit our stride and we needed a good lead before Janelle and Chloe had to take the bench.

I wasn’t going to make any changes as I thought the team took a while to get started and was looking forward to what was to come. We didn’t push out the score like I expected but again the turnover count and missed goals were too high to really capitalize on the defensive work and the turnover ball we were creating.
The 9 turnovers came all through the attacking end, we continued to have spurts of great, crisp play but amongst that was chaos and confusion.
Whole court defensive pressure held us in the game with every player on the court working hard and receiving a recovery, if not for themselves but also for their team mate. Janelle and Katie each recovered 6 balls each while Briarley played a supporting role in the 2nd quarter with 2 gains.
Assists were really high today too with lots of goaler to goaler passes (8) while Tay and Hayley played a supporting role bringing the ball down for a strong feed,

We didn’t play too well with 12 turnovers in 15 minutes. 10 bad passes coming from every player on the court. We stopped releasing and threw long passes in the wet. When players come off the bench we need to make sure that we bring them into the game through 100% passes and definite drives, from this they gain confidence.
Our center passes were a little sticky with the GA taking most of them but to compliment this Biance had the highest feeds. Our volume in the ring was not great with slow drives and passes into our goal third. We looked confused and waited for someone else to lead. It is important that we recognize when we are making a dead lead and re offer rather than driving to the same space doing the same move that didn’t work the first time.
Riddell transitioned the ball too quickly through their center third and into their goal third. Our recovery count reduced by almost a half and the stoppages weren’t coming early because they changed some players around and we took too long to adjust. Katie was strong under the ring taking 3 rebound and Sarah the 1. Riddell only had 2 goals that we didn’t rebound.
We were kept pretty quiet in the 3rd quarter shooting just 7 goals for 15 minutes of play while Riddell shot 9. This is the only quarter they beat us.

We reduced the turnovers but we also needed a lot of passes to penetrate a goal. This was because it was wet and because we needed to simply value possession to eat up time and avoid errors. The stats all around were pretty average, indicating a slow and lifeless quarter. We didn’t finish with a punch, we finished just holding out.
Our center passes needed to be shared by all 4 players, indicating trouble finding a clear path and the feeds were really low . Assists were decent because the work needed to be done inside the ring from goaler to goaler. There was no clear path and this was causing a huge problem with getting the ball in our circle and actually scoring a goal.
Katie was dominant in defence even with an injury, which is exactly what we needed. 4 of the 6 recoveries coming from her and sending the ball out of their goal third to safe hands.
Riddell outscored us by a goal in this quarter and that is why with 4 minutes to go, we needed Chloe to take the court. I could feel a quick decline in our performance and thought that this could cost us the game. When Chloe returned to the court we scored a quick 3 goals followed by 2 more.

Our pass selection in the first quarter really let us down. 9 bad passes a fumble, break and offside all cost us 11 opportunities to score. We did the work and then handed it back to Riddell to capitalize on. Lucky for us our defensive pressure was so strong and this stopped Riddell getting a massive jump on us, bigger than 9.
12 recoveries and 6 tips was where we delayed a score from Riddell, this is fantastic pressure but we can’t solely be a defensive team without scoring up the other end. We were kept to just 5 goals due to turnover ball before we took the shot and then 3 missed goals just added to our frustration.

We made several changes initially because we had to before the game blew out. This had an instant impact on the movement of the ball and how it was delivered into our goalers. After 2 mid court injuries we altered the team again but with these changes nothing much was effected.
The volume increased inside our goal ring with Tayla taking 8 of the 9 shots which meant that Amy lead out of our goal circle and provided an option up front. The one missed goal was then rebounded by Tay making her 100% effective.
9 turnovers is a reduction however 4 of those calls were coach killers. Amy stepped, Robyn broke and Jess stepped and had a held ball. We need to continue to work on making clear decisions when we are put under pressure. Jessie was the only play not to turnover the ball this quarter.

Amy didn’t disappoint shooting all 12 of our goals. Actually this is the only stat Amy has to her name in this quarter.
Defensively Caitriona was our strongest receiving 2 intercepts and a gain showing that she applied good pressure out front and she cleaned up her attacking work by not throwing a bad pass all quarter. Riddell’s tall GS was getting too much ball and with an injured Karyn she took advantage of that putting all but 1 goal up.

Although we didn’t get too many recoveries this quarter we were steady and valued possession. By valuing possession we made sure that no matter what, the ball finished in our goalers hands. The stats for this quarter is pretty empty except for the work done in and around our goal ring.
Center passes were delivered well, transition down court was good and then we waited for the right path to feed the ball into the ring and the goalers delivered.
Riddell’s goalers were kept to their lowest score of 7 goals because a 7 goal run just before the final whistle meant that we had the edge. Unfortunately a snap decision and waiting for the call meant that Riddells defenders turned over the ball and they shot a goal. It was a rare goal in the last 10 minutes of play but it was a much needed one and we had a draw.

We knew this was going to be a tough day and we fought hard for the whole game. We should have run away with this game, we had 17 more attempts, they only had 3. A disappointing outcome, as we had put in so much effort. Our defenders and C did a power of work and kept turning the ball over to give us opportunity, unfortunately we just couldn't convert. We could have had a draw, but a missed opportunity in the goal ring turned the ball over, we managed to get the ball back, but yet another wayward ball saw us run out of time. Unforced errors and inaccurate shooting is how we lost this game. We were the better team today, but we just didn't capitalise and that is what's disappointing.

This was the win we desperately needed. It was a great game played by every single team member and a well-deserved win. Positives we took from this game were our strong defensive pressure and improved shooting accuracy. Our defensive pressure in this game from the whole court generated 49 defensive gains! This is great. There were other that we could’ve got if we used two hands to pull the ball in and not tapped the ball. This is something we need to do more of. Our accuracy improved this game with a team percentage of 72% and our attacking rebounds were great today with 8 rebounds. It was an easy win but at times we lacked intensity. Our leads were not strong enough. We need to be able to read where you are going, if you want the ball and where you want the ball. We also needed to look down the court to the goalers first as most of the time Audrey was free for a pass but was never seen as the pass went sideways. We need to be able to look into the goalers first and make a decision on who to pass to next. Overall a pretty convincing win and a great game played by all.

A 14 to 9 quarter is not as strong of a statement as I would have liked to have made in the first 15 minutes of the game. As discussed we were really slow to release the ball to an attacking drive waiting too long for something ‘better’. It was not necessarily the defensive pressure that Woodend applied that forced us to hold onto the ball but the need or want for another drive so that the thrower could work out their second drive.
We missed too many close shots and instead of pushing that score line out it was kept reasonably close for Woodend heading into the second quarter.
Our defensive circle players were great applying tight pressure out front resulting in 7 intercepts between them. When Woodend did attempt the shot they were reasonably accurate shooting at 70% and of the 4 missed goals 3 of those shots were rebounded by Katie.
A reasonable effort that showed us what we are capable of but we fell short of really asserting out dominance with a clean and precise quarter.

I made changes in order to get a faster attacking line up on the court and the WD positional change came because I felt that Maddy was chasing too much and not applying enough pressure out front.
Interestingly we shot the same amount of goals in the second as we did the 1st, so the end result was the same. The 6 balls that we turned over came from Tayla and Chelsea bring the ball through the attack. Second guessing leads and offers resulted in turned over ball and costing us 6 more on the board. Our accuracy improved and we were no longer losing the ball in our circle, so that was effective but overall conversion was not as high as we would like it to be.
Woodend only converted 6 goals in the 2nd but it was not through a want of trying. Pressure from inside their ring was where we were most effective. We were a little quiet defensively through the middle so the work had to come over the shot and inside and just around their ring. Woodend missed 8 goals which is more than they converted and of those misses we rebounded 5. Janelle and Katie were starting to work out the best style of defense on the tall GS and faster shorter GS and this would become very clear heading into the second half.

A 20 - 4 goal quarter, really showing our opposition why we are a top 4 side. It was a game of 2 halves, especially considering it was a quarter of 2 teams. One line up remained the same as the 3rd quarter and the other was full of our under 19’s in our attacking line up. It was an impressive line up all around, with our young guns shooting 10 of the 20 goals for the quarter.
We pushed on from our 3rd quarter with steady balls, thought out drives and steady goaling. Our defensive pressure forced Woodend to throw 50/50 balls and this is where our 13 spoils/ tips came from. Janelle stopped the ball out front leaving Katie a little quiet this quarter. Although Woodend did put up 10 shots, the long reach of Katie and Janelle forced a missed goal and 6 shots fell short.

We got off to a good start with no real score board pressure. Our errors came through a variety of mistakes including a contact penalty in our ring, an over a 3rd and 3 fumbles. We had little brain fades that forced an error and we didn’t finish off the pass before we stepped on to run ahead of our defender and the result was a huge amount of turnovers (8). This is something we need to tidy up on because against a better quality opponent, like Rupo this is where the opposition get a taste and press on.
Once the ball did hit the ring successfully it was a fairly smooth transition into the ring and the goalers delivered, both missing just the one shot and rebounding 1 back. Volume is important in the case of an inaccurate goaler and lucky for us today this was not an issue.
Our defense was tight and with the addition of Briarley we forced a stop to their line up early. Red and Briarley combined well to force Woodend to turnover the ball 8 times in their goal third. We reduced our turnovers by 2 but the count was still too high on 6. We need to ensure that we are treasuring possession and not giving the ball away through poor decision making and stepping on. We need to be definite with our lead and reward the lead with a strong pass.
Everyone switched over from attack to defense really quickly and although we turned over 6 balls the defensive pressure from all 7 players was excellent. 15 recoveries with every player on the court forcing Woodend to turn over the ball at least once. Sarah’s 4 recoveries and Kym, Jess D and Briarley’s 3 all but made it impossible for Woodend to convert.
Woodend were kept very quite, as they found it harder to feed the tall GS. They only had 4 opportunities to score and converted just the 2, not giving our defenders too much of a chance to rebound a missed shot. Up the opposite end Georgia’s shot was not as accurate as the first quarter missing 4 goals but Amy had a good rebounding position and got her hands to recover 3 balls.

Using Tayla in the game today was an opportunity for our goalers and feeders to play with someone more experienced and lift their work rate to match Tayla’s. Our volume remained the same as the 2nd quarter with 13 shots being converted but the errors remained high.
The defensive pressure was outstanding again but we cannot just be a defensive team. We need to convert. We recovered 14 balls that need to turn into goals for us.

Our work rate remained high shooting 13 goals again for the quarter which is approximately 1 a minute. Accuracy was at 100% with no misses with all 3 goalers rotating time. There was a lot of goaler to goaler passes and direct feeds into a goaler to get the best shooting position possible.
We minimized turnovers but part of that may have been because we set a target of 50 goals and in order to achieve that we needed to maintain focus on holding possession and no throwing away the ball. However there was a coach killer with Georgia stepping.
Defensively there wasn’t too much work to be done off the ball because one on one pressure was forcing Woodend to throw the ball out of court of to empty space. Shutting down the tall GS put a stop to their easy path into goals and Jess did an amazing job at that with Red out front with 2 intercepts.

This was a tough game to watch. It was close at all times of the game we just couldn’t get the win. We know we could beat them it was some minor mistakes that cost us the game but we know we can improve with training. We crowded way too much throughout the whole game and never took the reset option to slow the play down and create space. This is something that can be worked on at training. Our attacking end was where we struggled. Too many passing turnovers came from our attack with bad passes/ forced passes and lack of movement being our downfall. This is where pre leads and creating space is important. Our shooting accuracy wasn’t great with 58% accuracy for the whole game. Jess who was thrown from defense to goals scored 9 goals and missed 0 for 100% accuracy. Our goaling needs to improve in order for us to win games. Our defensive pressure is what kept us in the game. Our full court pressure generated 14 defensive gains which is what kept the score line so close. Overall the things we need to work on are pre leads, not crowding, using a reset pass and creating space. We also need to settle play down so we do not force a ball into the goalers when they aren’t ready/set up. Goalers need to improve accuracy and need more movement in the ring. If we work on these things we can beat them next time we play them.

It was a very slow start with very little connections being made as soon as we needed to attack. Our recoveries were very high forcing Rupo to turn over the ball throughout the whole court but our ability to capitalize on our recoveries was where the ball was lost.
7 balls were lost in transition to our goal ring with Ciara being very costly with 3 bad passes. We were not reading each other very well and because we were second guessing leads and not delivering the ball the first time this created a sloppy start to the game.
If Rupo hadn’t of had a 4 goal run very early in the first quarter we would have asserted our dominance and ran away with game. We needed to build Tara’s confidence up when shooting the ball but it was a new goaling partnership where the relationship needed further development.
No positional changes
We reduced our turnovers to a more acceptable 4, which should have secured breathing room on the score board but some inaccurate shooting and no return on the rebound from us meant that we didn’t get any ball back for a second attempt. The feeding remained high but we became a little less predictable with Julia in GA and Chelsea picking up some of the work load.
Rupo’s GS dominated with the shot count but they were just as inaccurate missing 5. No defensive rebounds were recorded by our defenders and with a very tall GS, I can assume that she got back the 3 goals she missed in rebounds.
We became a little costly in defense being called for quite a few contacts. Because our recoveries, particularly intercepts and gains were low our attempts to spoil the ball cost us a penalty, with our defenders being called for 13 contacts between them.
After a 4 goal run towards the end of the second quarter taking a 19 -15 lead Rupo fought back to score the last 6 goals giving them a 2 goal lead heading into half time.

Our team had a complete rejig to counteract for Chelsea being restricted to playing just a half a game of netball and to create a smarter, moving goal third. We outscored Rupo 13- 8 with this new line up. We only missed 3 goals and Julia rebounded 2 of those.
Tayla took a lot of possessions today coming onto the court in WA and dominating not only the center passes but the feeds in our goalers. A very rusty but familiar line up of Ciara and Julia in the goal ring took a brief time to adjust but once they did it was reasonably easy to move the ball between each other in the goal circle.
We cleaned up our defense with fewer contacts being called and our recoveries increase particularly by Amy. Amy had 3 gains and took 5 intercepts to minimize Rupertswoods opportunity to convert. They were kept reasonably quiet with Sarah’s stretch over the pass, Maddy’s body work and Amy’s reading of the play. The GA shot only the 1 goal and the GS 7 from 7.
We mainly scored on a run in the third with three, 3 goal runs, a 2 goal run and only 2 singles. More importantly we shot the first 2 goals of the quarter after the shocking end to the first half.
Although our line up stayed the same we mixed up our how we attacked the ball, whether this was deliberate or not- that’s not important. We were less predictable and this made Rupo’s changes insignificant because we had something else to throw at them. Our center pass receives swapped from Tay to Ciara and the assists were now dominated by Tayla although all 4 attackers shared the workload.
Julia was outstanding in our shooting circle and with 3 feeders she did an outstanding job finishing off. Ciara and Julia played their old school netball in the last 15 minutes and this frustrated Rupo’s coach immensely with a very vocal opposition coach spurring us on.
Our full court defensive pressure cracked Rupo because we were successful across the board. Every player being responsible for at least 1 direct recovery, except Ciara. Amy was no longer the dominate defender on the court with Juls 2, Tay 2, Maddy 1, Sarah 2, Amy 1 and Katie 4. Any talk that our ‘VNL’ ring in’s won us the game couldn’t be further from the truth with 9 gains from our ‘non ring in’s’.
Their GA was kept completely quiet not converting a single shot, missing 2 and not assisting in a single shot. The GS was kept pretty quiet with 4 misses and converting 7 shots. Rupo only shot single goals in the last quarter while we shot a 4 goal run and three 2 goal runs. A very convincing win of 10 goals.

What we gave away in turnovers, we recovered but failed to score from. We were not under a lot of pressure through the mid court but stepped on and forced a pass into Tara and the ball was lost. We did try hard to recover the ball but Rupo were too crisp to transition the ball and the ball was moved through the center third too quickly.

Changes needed to be made because we were not effective on the court and positions were not being won. We scored only the 4 goals but they were also kept quieter scoring just the 7.
The low attacking stats are an indication of how slow the quarter was and how it was a game of ping pong. In 12 minutes we scored just the 4 goals. We were most competitive in the fourth quarter going down 8 to 9. More center passes were thrown but getting the ball into our goal third or onto the circle edge proved to be the continuing problem for the game. Georgia in GA, like Amy the quarter before looked to have no real effect on the court, with few feeds, assists and attempts at goals. This is something we need to address at training.
We tired through our defense and although the work load of the defenders for the game was intense and high our recoveries were reduced and Rupo made sure that their fresh comfortable winning legs worked the ball as long as they needed to get the goal. The GS this quarter dominated putting up all their goals but did miss 5 goals, of which Karyn rebounded 2 and Sarah the 1.
Overall not a great performance from us with Rupo beating us by 18 goals but considering that they had 30 more attempts than us, that’s reasonable. The positive is that this was far from a good performance let alone a great performance.

We knew going up against Rupo was going to be tough but a good time to see where we stood in the competition. Our start is what really let us down in this game and we took too long to recover. Rupo scored the first 4 goals before we scored our first goal and then the next 5 before we scored our 2nd. We had too many unforced errors, there were fumbles, stepping, off-side, breaking, bad passes, crowding, no drive on to the ball and no pre-leads. Playing chase netball, not thinking, and trying to our run our opposition. Our defenders tried very hard to keep us in the game by getting turnovers but unfortunately we just could not get the ball into our shooting circle.

c) 21 bad passes – this is basically what cost us the game – 16 of these bad passes happened in the first 2 quarters – we can’t win games with stats like this!
Nel, although you missed some shots your smart netball brain and leadership, quick release of the ball, helped put us on the board. Your movement is looking much more fluent!
Susan, we thought you had a solid game. You worked incredibly hard for the entire game, we need our attackers to release the ball much quicker to you and understand where the space is
Em O, you had a great game in GD and WD. You need to back yourself and not want to take that bib off!
Steph, a special mention to you. In the 1st quarter you chased your WA everywhere never able to catch up and came off, after a chat with you, you went back on, totally changed what you were doing, which made significant change to your game! Well done!
Bella, well done on a great job in WA – we just need to work on how to find your space
Sometimes in games there are some players who just match up better against an opponent than others and we found that today, unfortunately it was hard to make adjustments and having this only been the second game you have all played together we know when we meet them next time we will be ready. Keep training hard and stay positive!
Final Score: Macedon 18 – Rupertswood 32

We knew going into this game that it was going to be tough. Rupertswood are a tough team to come up against but we gave it a good crack. We had multiple opportunities to hit the lead but a few bad passes and turnovers cost us the game. We started off really slow especially in our attack and our movement wasn’t really present at all in the first quarter. Our timing for leads was too early and we did not recognize this, which led to turnovers and bad passes. We needed to reset a lot more than we did in the first quarter to create space and start again. This is where the importance of pre leads and clearing out come into play. It was a slow start but we kept them a draw at 4 all at the end of the first quarter.
Our second quarter was about the same as our first. Our movement was lacking which led us to hold the ball too long and allow Rupertswood to set up in their defense. Our 4 turnovers were all from bad passes. These were due to poor leads and poor decision-making. Audrey had scored all of our 8 goals and a change needed to be made as I felt the movement in the ring was lacking. Our recoveries and tips all came from our circle defenders that showed that defensive pressure from out attackers and midcourt was lacking. We had a total of 12 feeds and assists (7 of these from Molly) with only 9 attempts at goal. This showed that our movement in the midcourt was all right but our movement by the goalers was slow. I think we panicked and hesitated when we got the ball I into the goalers when we just needed to keep our cool and play our game. We scored 4 goals from 9 attempts this quarter. We kept Rupertswood close with us only going down by 2 this quarter to make the score 8-10.
In the third quarter we kept out turnovers to a minimum with only 3 (2 bad passes and 1 step). Our movement improved and we got the ball into out goalers 11 times. However our accuracy was poor and we shot 5/11. First ball pressure was applied in this quarter, which was shown in the stats with our midcourt taking most of our recoveries and tips. Rupertswood only had 9 attempts at goal compared to our 11 attempts but they converted better than us. Our accuracy was 45% and theirs was 78% for the quarter. Our decision-making was better and our timing had improved. We were looking like a cohesive group the only thing lacking was accuracy from the goalers.
We won the last quarter by 1 with us shooting 5 goals and Rupertswood shooting 4. 5 of our 6 turnovers were bad passes. I think we started to get tired and our movement dropped off towards the end of the quarter. Our defensive pressure was excellent in this quarter with a total of 11 recoveries and tips. Our goaling was better in this quarter with our accuracy improving. This indicated that we moved the ball well into attack and got the goalers into the best position to shoot. We ended but going down by 3 to Rupertswood with the final score being 18-21.
I was disappointed with the loss because I know that we can beat them. However, I wasn’t disappointed in the game and how the girls played. I was pretty happy with the attitudes of the girls and their ability to keep going and keep fighting for the ball. They all worked their butts off. Things to improve on are goaling accuracy, movement down the court and movement in the goal ring.

The first quarter did not start as well as what I would have liked. We were trailing 3 -1 in the opening minutes with unforced errors and missed goals. We were caught off guard in our defense with a small zippy goaling pair taking the behind drop pass and our goalers took Tara’s height for granted and she was physically out muscled by a smaller stockier GK.
We made a change early and this seemed to open up our attacking line up and then the goals started coming. The team took 8 intercepts throughout the whole court with Ciara being the only player not to take a recovery. Not too much of a story to be told by our circle defenders other than it did make it down to their circle and 5 stoppages came from the backline with Katie deflecting 2, 1 gain and 2 intercepts.
Accuracy today is not important as the conditions influenced our shooting. Tara shot 1 / 3 Chloe 3 /6 and Tayla 9/10. An 8 goal run secured a handy lead 13-6 heading into the 2nd quarter.
A reasonable amount of turnovers considering the conditions got worse. We worked out how it was best and safest to take a center pass and Chelsea delivered. We then transition the ball into our goal third, Tayla drove out and took the ball which allowed Chloe to drive/jog on in to take the ball for a shot. The shooting conditions were atrocious and percentage wasn’t important, Tay shot 2 from 5 and Chloe shot 9 from 19 with a very strong rebound count of 8.
We were clean in our defense but part of this was because the conditions were not right to hunt for an intercept so our defensive style had to be simple and win us ball by applying first ball pressure. Janelle covered the second phase drive and took 3 intercepts while Maddy timed her defense well with a deflection, gain and intercept.

We continued to value possession and ensure that the passes were to strong hands or to the body. I think Glenn was really generous with marking our turnovers. We incidentally mixed it up with Chloe taking the center passes and then Ciara taking the second phase ball. The feeds dominated by Chelsea and Ciara but then the ball needed to be reworked through assists to find the closest shooting position. All 4 attackers Tayla, Chloe, Chelsea and Ciara threw a significant amount of passes to assist with the goal and this work played a significant part in the accuracy of our goalers, especially considering the conditions. Tayla shot 10 from 10 and Chloe shot 10 from 13. Unfortunately we didn’t get a rebound in our circle this quarter.
The defensive pressure from all over the court was strong with everyone on court taking an intercept, but it was at its strongest in our defensive third. Chelsea deflected a pass, took a gain and an intercept and Maddy supported that with 4 deflections and 2 intercepts. The circle defenders timing improved and the pressure over the ball created scraps and intercepts for others to gain from. Janelle deflected 2 passes, received 2 gains, an intercept and a rebound while Katie came out more and spoilt 2 passes with 2 gains and an intercept.
Sunbury were starved of any ball and shot 2 from 5 attempts and those goals came very early in the 3rd quarter.
Chel & T 11
Poor decision making not taking the conditions into account and umpiring calls not going our way were the major contributor of the errors in the final quarter. Considering the amount of ball our attackers were handling the errors weren’t too significant.
Tayla and Chelsea made good position around the ring and they delivered the ball in a reasonably good shooting position. The work being done in the ring was through Ciara assisting Chloe and the shot went up from there. Chloe finished off well shooting at 86%.
Whole court defense was strong and I think this is what is going to be our strength this season. We transitioned quickly from an attacker to a defender and this applied pressure through the middle. Ciara unexpectedly had a gain, intercept and a rebound while up the other end Katie received a gain and 2 rebounds and then Janelle stepped in. Janelle had 2 deflections, 1 gain, an intercept and 3 rebounds. The pressure from these 2 girls made sure that Sunbury didn’t stand a chance. Their GA shot 4 from 6 and their GS shot 2 from 5.
A great win under crappy conditions.

The first quarter started really strong with Macedon scoring 11 goals before Wallan shot their first goal. The ball did go down their end but our defensive pressure was way too strong particularly through the center third. Sarah’s recovery was exceptional forcing Wallan to turnover 5 balls with Sarah intercepting 3 and receiving 2 gains. The defense over their shot was also extremely strong causing Wallan to miss 5 of their 6 goals. We rebounded all 5 missed shots with Karyn rebounding 4.
When attacking the ball we made quite a few poor choices and didn’t execute the ball to where a player was leading and this caused a lot of unforced errors with Amy stepping twice, Georgia throwing 2 bad passes, Sarah a held ball and Kym throwing 2 bad passes. Our center passes were taken majority by Amy in GA which allowed Sarah to run for a second phase pass, but she didn’t hit the ring which forced an extra pass. We clogged the ball through our attack because with Amy taking so many center passes it stopped her getting in the ring and then when she did drive in the timing was out or/ and the pass was too slow.
Both goalers were not on target with Amy not only receiving a lot of ball but she was also responsible for putting up a majority of our shots. Amy shot 10 from 11 and Georgia shot 4 from 8.

Georgia Robyn 4

Our turnover count was still too high with coach killers like a held and an over a 3rd to add to the bad passes. I made a few changes to the line up to see what other options we have and considering we were up 14- 1. Karyn moved from defense to GS, Georgia out to GA, Robyn on into WA, Red into GD and Sharna back to GK. Lots of changes to the line up but with a 14 to 1 lead this should not have had too much of an impact.
The center passes were a little difficult with the pass needing to be shared between both the WA and GA. There is nothing significant about how and who fed into the goalers but what is important is that the ball made its way into the circle fairly stress free. Karyn shot well at 82% but unfortunately Georgia only shot 1 from 5 attempts. Lucky for us we had the tallest player in our goal ring and Karyn rebounded 3 of the 7 missed shots.
Our mid court was costly with turnovers with Kym tiring in attack and Robyn misreading the drives. Jessie’s recovery was fantastic and 3 intercepts and 1 gain gave us the extra opportunities to make up for our errors.
Sharna was costly in defense but her task was to contest the pass and hunt. Penalized for contacts that she needed to pull out of but that pressure also slowed down their attack and giving our team time to regroup and pressure the pass. Caitriona also was a front line stop with the only 2 rebounds in their ring, an intercept and a gain. Wallan had 13 attempts at goals shooting 7 successfully. Fortunate for us they were inaccurate otherwise they would have narrowed the score line 24 -13 reducing our percentage.

Jess D 4
Thinking we were travelling ok, I tweaked the line up with Sarah returning to WA, Amy replacing Georgia in an effort to improve accuracy, Jessie moved into C as Kym was tiring and turning over too much ball. Sharna moved out to WD and Jess D came on into GK. Our lineup was still strong both in attack and defense and I had full confidence that we had the fitness and skill level to push the score line out.
Our WA still didn’t dominate our center passes but Sarah fixed her drive and landed strong on the circle edge throwing every feed but 3 balls into our goalers. Karyn shot 4 from 8 and rebounded 2 missed shots and took 2 gains before we called an injury time and Jess D moved into goals, Kym into WD and Sharna back into GK. Jess put up one shot and nailed it but that was it for opportunity. Amy uncharacteristically shot 2 from 5.
We won this quarter by just 1 goal. Things just weren’t going our way particularly in our goal circle. We didn’t directly throw away too many balls but we lost the ball in our circle with missed goals. We missed more than we scored, painting the picture of the 3rd quarter.
Jess D and Sharna filled the role perfectly in goal keeper dominating their opponent. Jess got 2 gains,1 intercept and a rebound in the short time she was in keeper. Sharna replaced her after a much needed reshuffle in attack and continued with Jess’s work with 3 intercepts.

Karyn 2 Robyn 2
Wow what a quarter! Nothing good came out of the attacking end. Jess started in goals but was replaced by Amy. We took a punt on Sharna moving her to GA but was replaced by Georgia half way through the quarter. Robyn moved into the center, Kym came on into WD, Red stayed in GD and Karyn moved into keeper.
Karyn and Kym were the only 2 players not to throw away a ball. We had 2 coach killers of a held and a break but the other 7 errors were with bad passes.
There were not enough center passes taken in the 4th as the ball was moved like ping pong and not netball. The defense end kept us in the game with their persistence in the ring. We deflected the ball on several occasions (12) slowig up the play and in the end just eating up time. Caitriona was effective with 3 gains while Karyn was outstanding with 3 gains, 2 rebounds and 7 deflections. Wallan had 13 attempts at goals to our 7 but the pressure Karyn and Red put over the shot kept them in their place and they only capitalized on 6 opportunities.
Not a pretty quarter with very little to celebrate outside our defense.
Votes: 3 Karyn 2 Sharna 1 Caitriona
Jessie just missing out
Confident start to the game with a 28-goal streak, we didn’t let Wallan get a goal until half way through the second quarter. The bad passes were not too bad with 15 for the whole game but this did get worst as the game progressed so something to really be mindful of.
a) Goal shooting at 60% 56 goals with 37 misses. We did get 15 rebounds in the shooting circle so this does help. It was a tough windy day but we have to try to make the most of our opportunities because against tougher teams we won’t get a lot of chances to get another shot.
b) Tremendous work in defence with 25 intercepts, 4 rebounds (they did not get a lot of opportunity), 19 gains & 12 tips. Total of 60 defensive recoveries.
Great game overall, our first big win, gave us a good opportunity to try out different positions and we what did and didn’t work. Lots to work on but good start to the season

The first quarter was a slow start for the girls. Although we were in front the whole quarter we seemed a bit erratic. We were playing exactly like Wallan instead of sticking to our game plan and playing our game. 2 stepping calls were made in this quarter due to some player’s quick playing style and their ability to step on but the whole team has not acquired this quick style and it showed in this first quarter. We needed someone to settle the play down and make quality decisions in order to effectively get the ball to the goalers more often.
The team took 6 intercepts with 4 of them coming form Jess DW and each player taking at least 1 recovery. The ball didn’t make it down to Wallan’s end much with them only having 5 attempts at goal, which showed the amount of defensive pressure, put on in both our defensive end and our midcourt.
Accuracy in this quarter was not the best but I did take the wind into consideration. Audrey shot 4/8 and Darcy 3/8. A solid start to the game with Macedon leading 7-2 going into the next quarter.
We started to find our feet this quarter. We we’re looking like a more cohesive group and started to bring what we’ve been working on at training into our game. Our goalers started to move well and open up space, which allowed an easy pass into the circle and goal. We shot at 40% this quarter, which is nowhere near what it should be however it was quite windy. This is something we need to continually work on this season. Audrey shot 5/9 and jess shot 5/6. 3 of these misses were rebounded though, which gave us another attempt at goal.
We were clean in our defense this quarter however most of our intercept came from the midcourt. This shows that the pressure applied from midcourt to defense is effective and contributed to our scoring. The ball did not make it down to Wallan’s scoring end much that again showed the amount of defensive pressure in the midcourt. Wallan had 3 attempts at goal and scored only 1. A good defensive quarter by the team with 14 recoveries and 3 tips in which 6 of these came from Isobel.

We valued possession this quarter, which was evident by our scoring. We looked like a well-oiled machine this quarter moving the ball down the court well. We were able to feed the ball well into the goalers and convert. Alex was a standout this quarter with 6 feeds and 6 assists. First ball pressure down the court was also better in this quarter with a total of 17 recoveries and tips. 5 of these coming from Isobel. This was our strongest quarter for the game with both our defense and attack working as a cohesive group. We only had 4 turnovers this quarter, which indicates that we valued possession and made good decisions.
Goaling was better this quarter with Audrey shooting 7/9 and jess shooting 8/11 with a total of 15/20. This was our highest scoring quarter for the game and our accuracy was pretty good this quarter.
Wallan were starved of any ball and did not get an attempt at a goal. They did not score this quarter due to our impressive defensive pressure across all areas of the court.

We continued with our cohesive movement down the court this quarter and got it into the ring 27 times. Goaling let us down this quarter with 10 goals scored from 27 attempts. The number of attempts showed that our defensive pressure and ability to move the ball quickly down the court was excellent this quarter however our Goaling didn’t reward us for it. Our turnover count was the lowest for the game, with only 2 turnovers this quarter. We had a total of 15 recoveries and tips with Cass taking 5 of these. There were 19 feeds into the goalers this quarter, which showed the cohesiveness of the attack end. The standouts for feeds this quarter were Molly with 8 and Maddie with 5. There were 5 assists this quarter with Maddie and Darcy both having 2 assists. I was happy with the movement and defensive pressure this quarter but our accuracy from our goalers needs to improve. Goaling this quarter was Audrey 7/16 and Darcy 3/11 with a total of 10/27.
Pretty happy with the way the girls played for our first official game. Great win with a final score of 42-3.
