Round 17: Macedon Vs Rams U19s

Macedon 16 DEF BY Rams 41

Before this match we set ourselves goals to enact in the game: to slow Ram’s attacking end down, to play possession netball and to not rush ourselves. For the most part we were able to do this. In the first quarter, we were able to come out strong defensively, gaining 9 recoveries (Tamika – 1 gain and 2 intercepts) through the court. It was a pity, however, that we turned over the ball 9 times and were unable to convert the ball when it came into our attacking third. Abbey was a big help in transitioning the ball down in the WD position. We can’t say that Rams totally outclassed us in this quarter because if we had reduced the turnovers and 3 missed goals, we would have had a super competitive quarter time score. It was 3-7 at quarter time. Once again we had our chances in this quarter. We had an equal number of recoveries to turnovers in this quarter, nullifying the excellent defensive pressure. Eloise had a great second quarter with 4 gains and 2 rebounds. Georgie took every feed and assist for this quarter. At half time we were 7-16. In the third quarter, our bad passes continued and our defensive recoveries dried up. Beth took all but two centre passes in this quarter trying to create opportunities for the team. Rams goal shooter was finding the ball easy in this last half and put many goals on the scoreboard for her team. 9-28 at 3 quarter time. Once again we weren’t recovering enough ball, but we were a little more careful to not turnover our own. This was mainly due to the ball movement of the Rams making it hard for us to turn it over, especially their speedy transitions down the court. Stella and Beth were able to convert 7 goals for the team this quarter. The final score ending up at 16-41. Our defensive game slipped in the last half but Rams gave us plenty of opportunities to put on a more competitive scoreline. We were able to score more goals in attack and keep them to less goals, compared to when we played them earlier this season. Our team is improving every single week and we are so proud to say we’ll be competing in FINALS this year!
