Round 7: Macedon Vs Woodend U19s

Macedon 33 DEF Woodend 22

Coming into the match, we knew this could be one to win. It was a slow start by our girls, letting Woodend get out to a three goal lead early in the quarter. We made lots of passing errors in attack and had trouble transitioning out of defence. Luckily, we switched on eventually and our great defensive efforts evened out the quarter at 7 all.

The same passing errors occurred during the second quarter. Our goalers were missing goals but getting their own rebounds. The defensive efforts of Lucy and Eloise helped us by gaining 7 intercepts in this quarter. We ended the quarter up by two.

We were much more safe and effective with the ball in the third. We only had one bad pass for all of this quarter. Our goalers were becoming much more efficient as the game went on. It was more of a whole team defence approach this quarter with five players winning back ball for us. Emily was put into Centre and she was able to win us the ball back 8 times in the last half. Her drive through the middle was much needed and she linked well with Abbey in Wing Attack. At three quarter time we were ahead 23 to 18.

In the last quarter, we kept turnovers to a minimum again. We worked hard to get back any balls we threw away. Lucy’s defence for all four quarters was highly commendable. She finished the match with 10 intercepts, 2 rebounds, 2 gains and 6 deflections. The defensive pressure in the last quarter meant we stretched our lead out. Beth in goals was our primary scorer once again, finishing the game with 16 goals. We won this quarter 10 goals to 4 and finished the game with a solid 11 goal win.

This win was on the back of keeping our turnovers to an equal season low and working very hard on winning ball off Woodend Hesket.

Best on: Lucy Duoba
