Round 6: Macedon V Wallan – A Grade

Unpacking the game:
We got off to a slow start and had to call an early ‘injury’ in our goaling end. This instantly fixed the timing of our attackers and the goals started to come. Our 2nd quarter was our weakest in our attack with 8 turnovers (7 bad passes) and 3 offensive contact penalties. The goaling accuracy slipped and feeds and assists had to come from every player. Our defenders however stepped up a gear with 13 recoveries, all defensive rebounds and keeping Wallan’s goalers to 50%. We chipped away at it and because we shot at 79% and Wallan shot at 66% we snatched the 4 points.
Targets

We didn’t meet enough of our targets today. Clearly our defensive rebound was outstanding giving Wallan no second chances while our attacking needs much more work. Hopefully we can arrange a training session soon to try and work this out.

Positives to be taken from the game:

1. We were down in the first quarter and fought hard again to get control of the game.
2. Our defensive rebounds were our strength.
3. We were able to rest Janelle in the last quarter and still took the 4th quarter win.
4. We mixed up who received the center passes.

Area for improvement:

1. Our first quarter. Our starts are letting us down.
2. 20 of the 24 turnovers came from our attacking end.
3. 2 held balls, 1 offside, 1 centre pass break and a fumble- coach killers.
4. Goaling accuracy.
