Round 16: Macedon Vs Wallan B Grade

Round 16: Macedon Vs Wallan B Grade

Macedon 54 Won 26 Wallan

With Demi Young out for the week after suffering a head knock in last weeks game, a new line up was going to take the court. Demi F stepped up and played Centre, Ash started in WA and the other 5 positions were filled with familiar faces.  Considering our line up was not our typical line up, we started really strong and valued possession. We only turned over the ball once with a fumble. Our goalers were serviced with a lot of ball and shot 12 from a possible 19 attempts.

We applied full court defensive pressure and this was forcing Wallan to turnover the ball.  Demi read the ball well and intercepted 2 passes while our back-line defence spoilt 6 balls. Wallan’s goalers shot well, 6 out of 8 attempts but because we were depriving them of ball they never had an opportunity to get ahead. A strong 13- 6 first quarter.

I rested Ash for A grade and brought Eliza on into GS and moved Georgia into WA. We were becoming a bit predictable in attack and just not finishing off leads. We turned over the ball 7 times with 5 bad passes, 4 of those in our goal third. When Eliza found the right position under the post, and put her hand up she was an easy target and converted. She shot at 100% (8/8) and Nellie supported in the back.

Our defensive line up valued the ball and didn’t undo their hard work. 10 recoveries from the team and 2 defensive rebounds. Wallan was serviced with 7 balls in their goal circle but were put under pressure from Aleigha and Bella, missing 3 goals. We beat Wallan by 2 goals in the second quarter and maintained a comfortable lead heading into half time 22- 9.

Another full court change- Georgia moved to GA, hoping that she would shoot more accurately in the GA position, Demi F moved into her familiar position WA, Dels took the centre bib and Kaz came on into GK.  All these changes proved to strengthen our team as we shot 15 goals this quarter. Demi provided a more direct lead onto the ring and with her skill and expertise demanded the ball and rewarded our goalers leads and holds. Eliza continued her 100% shooting (12/12) and Georgia picked up her accuracy with 3 from 4 attempts.

Bringing the ball out of defence was costly in the third with 4 turnovers from our WD, GD and GK.  We weren’t demanding the ball and the execution of the pass was not accurate enough.  We didn’t adjust to the change in umpires and their 3 feet, we were put out of play more than I would have liked (7) however our defence pressure was solid.  We recovered 12 balls, including 5 rebounds. Wallan was kept to just the 5 goals, we tripled them in this quarter to take a strong lead 37 – 18.

We made just the one change in the last quarter with Aleigha taking the WD position for the first time this season. We finished the last quarter the same way we started. 1 turnover in 12 minutes, something the girls should be very proud of. We were clean all over the court, attracted very little whistle and shot reasonably well. Our highest goal scoring quarter with 16 conversions, however we missed 10. A solid game from a team that is building to great things. 54- 26.
