Round 1: Cats V Riddell - A Grade

Where the game was won or lost?
We won because we started had the sense to work out what wasn’t working and fix it before half time. Our defensive pressure was relentless in the 2^nd, 3^rd and 4^th quarter and with such a high volume at goals we chipped away at it in the 2^nd and 3^rd and put our foot down for the last 15 minutes.

Quarters that stood out:
The 2^nd quarter with dominance and worked out what wasn’t working in the first quarter and fixed it. We shot the first 6 goals in the 2^nd without defensive pressure coming from all over the court. Our GS and WD were the only 2 players who didn’t recover a ball. In the 2^nd we were also very direct with the feeds and assists into the goalers.

Significant goal runs:

Q1: We scored the first 3 but they followed up with 6 in a row. It was evenly matched in the first quarter.
Q2: We shot the first 6 and towards the end of the quarter another 8 in a row.
Q3: We started with the first 4 and then another 4, followed by 7 and another 3 goal run. They only had a 2 goal run early in this quarter.
Q4: It took a while before we put 2 in a row on the board but not long after we shot 4 and then another 6.

Positives to be taken from the game:

1. We were able to find our groove after a bad start.

2. Defensive team effort was high.

3. Tried a few different combinations

Area for improvement:

1. Slow start to the game.

2. Attacking turnovers and missed goals in the last quarter of the game.
