Where the game was won or lost?
We won the game because we had a 3rd quarter where we outscored Diggers Rest by 6 goals. This set us up for the win.
Quarters that stood out:
Any quarter where we were up the umpire’s end that called a held ball after 2 seconds and random steps. The umpiring made it extremely hard for our team to work the ball fast and contest defensive balls.
Significant goal runs:
Q1: Our first and second goal came together and then the remainder of the quarter was a goal for goal contest.
Q2: We had a 2 goal run, they had a 3 goal run but lucky for us we finished the first half with the last 2 goals. This gave us a 4 goal lead heading into the second half.
Q3: The first 4 goals were singles and we broke away with 3 in a row but Diggers fought back. Another quick 2 from us, followed by the last 2 goals of the 3rd and we had it out to 10 goals.
Q4: A start of singles before we took it away with 5 goals, sitting with some relief until Diggers shot 4 in a row. We had done enough to win by 10.
Positives to be taken from the game:
- Very strong defense with 39 recoveries.
- Amy shot very well with 26 from 32.
- We had a good strong goal run in the last quarter that could have been the nail in the coffin.
Area for improvement:
- Team goaling percentage was not very good.
- We were heavily penalized with the contact calls (umpire related for most part).
- 11 steps, 5 off sides and 3 held balls- coach killers.
