Round 17: Macedon vs Rams B Grade

Round 17: Macedon vs Rams B Grade

Macedon 47 DEF Rams 32

Look out, B grade have a full team plus Hetty! The players at training on Thursday were rewarded with a starting 7 position and they got off to a great start with 4 on the board before Rams put up a successful shot. Our goalers shot at 100%, which gave the team the boast they needed to push on and keep delivering the ball. The full court defensive pressure was outstanding with 6 intercepts, 5 gains and 5 tips, that’s 11 stoppages but unfortunately Macedon didn’t take full advantage of that with 8 turnovers. Rams were deprived of ball in their attacking third and that gave Macedon a 12- 7 start in the first quarter.
In the second quarter the Macedon goalers switched positions, to create a miss match in the goal ring. Something was off this quarter and Macedon lost their rhythm in attack. 5 bad passes, 1 goaling contact and 6 missed goals meant that Macedon was giving the Rams an opportunity to get back in the game instead of pushing on. Again, it was Macedon’s full court defensive pressure that kept them in front by the narrowest of margins with 4 intercepts, 4 gains, 1 rebound and 4 tips. Macedon lost the second quarter 8 – 9 but managed to keep the lead heading into half time 20 -16.
G Hutch came on into WD, Bella came on into GK and Hetty took the GS bib. Macedon were
outstanding in the 3 rd quarter. They valued the ball, did the basics right and delivered so much ball
into the goalers. Hetty converted 14, missed 5 and rebounded 3 and Georgia’s aim went astray with
2 from 4 attempts and 1 rebound. In defence Macedon was UNSTOPPABLE! Every player recovered a ball. G Fearn was incredible with 3 tips and an intercept, Ash took 2 intercepts, Demi a rebound, G
Hutch and 2 intercepts, Taylah 4 recoveries and Bella 4 recoveries. Macedon shot 8 goals in a row,
while Rams only shot the 2. Rams converted 5 goals and Macedon smashed out 16 goals. 36- 21
heading into the last quarter.
The last quarter complimented all the work from the first 3 quarters and the players could afford to
be a little tired and complacent at times. 4 bad passes, and several opportunities to score. Macedon
did score 12 goals in 12 minutes, but accuracy slipped with 8 misses and just the one rebound. The
defence from the team also slipped away with just 4 intercepts (3 from the attack end) and the other 3 recoveries from Bella in GK. Rams shot 11 goals in the last quarter, but the lead Macedon had already created made them too far in front to catch. A solid win 48 – 32 and MINOR PREMIERS
secured for the 2023 season.
Votes: A very close one … G Fearn
