Macedon (46) Won Lancefield (24)
In the first quarter, a few players took to the court looking a little nervous. It took the team a couple of minutes to find their rythym but once we did there was no stopping us.
The key was shutting down the WA, who was becoming the main feeder and moving the ball quickly through our attack. After Georgia H had a crack, a more experienced and less nervous Dels came on into WD and made sure that if the WA was to get the ball it was through a lot of work.
Georgia and Sammi shot with accuracy and were very careful with possession, Georgia F didn’t turn over a single pass in this game. Nellie played the 2nd half in GS and is gradually finding her feet and the tempo of a b grade game. The two Demi’s combined well on our centre passes making clear drives and delivering the ball with some give and go options. They followed this up with good body placement on our ring and delivered the ball accurately to one of our goaling options.
Aleigha and Bella combining with Dels provided solid hard man on man defence which meant that the pressure was always on a less experienced Lancefield. Demi Y connected the ball through the midcourt and any mistake Lancefield made – we made them pay with a goal.
We had the luxury this week of making changes and getting everyone on the court. Shanae stepped in as our 3rd defender and just built on the work Aleigha and Bella had already done. Georgia and Sami were given a quarter rest each, giving Nellie an opportunity to get some minutes on the court.
All combinations were strong and the result was a very healthy scoreline by the final whistle. It will be interesting to see how this young team fairs when they play a more experienced lineup.
