Macedon (21) Won Lancefield (19)
The girls had a flying start to this game, scoring the first 5 goals but then with plenty of goals missed we let Lancefield come back into the game and dictate the end of the Q1 only able to hold a 1 goal lead. The physicality of Lancefield rattled our goalers, centre re-start and midcourt passing turnovers were costly in Q2 handing Lancefield the momentum, now 2 goals down.
We went into the second half with a new approach, keep position and having patience. Putting Amy Gooch into GA really helped to settle our attacking end. Steph Ferrier continued to dominate in the attack and Janayah started to hit the circle edge and feeding into the ring was more controlled.
Unfortunately, some feeding and our goaling in the third quarter weren’t as accurate as we would have hoped. 11 intercepts over the entire court kept Lancefield to 1 goal, we were back in the lead by 1 goal heading into the final quarter.
The last quarter saw our defensive end come alive and our new combination in the ring of Allira Egan and Isobel McArdle pulling in some great rebounds. Izzy and Sam Stevenson pushed hard, sticking to a tight man on man defence giving them both some incredible intercepts and ensuring the team keep possession of the ball for the majority of the quarter. The team kept calm and collected with Lancefield breathing down our necks on the scoreboard and managed to get us a 2 goal, hard-fought win under pressure.
Very excited to have Isobel McArdle play her first Senior Game with Macedon and perform to such a standard.
