Round 2: Macedon Vs Diggers Rest U19s

Macedon 25 def  Diggers Rest 24

After Round 1, the Under 19s netball players were ready to bounce back. The weather conditions were summer-like and the girls put on a very impressive effort for the club.

In the first quarter, momentum went in ebbs and flows and goaling accuracy from the opposition seemed like an area where we could definitely capitalise. We gained so much ball in our defensive end throughout the game, hugely contributed by the work of Jorjah Chamra. We went into the first break 5 all.

The defensive efforts continued, as Eloise Williams complemented Jorjah well. Not all of our hard work was converted to goals but our work-rate stayed high. As the game continued, mistakes and turnovers from both teams continued a plenty, as the ball went back and forward down the court. We went into half time at 10 goals each.

After half time, the girls put their foot down. Our hard work defensively was converted and the combination of Stella Vaughan and Beth Barry in goals started to solidify. We went into three quarter time up by 3, 19-16.

The line-up in the last remained the same. It was up to the girls to keep their effort and workload up. In what proved to a nail-biting finish, the girls did just that. They kept their cool and won 25 to 24.

In hot conditions, I was very proud of the girls for keeping their intensity high and finishing out the game. They improved aspects of their game from the previous week.

As we look forward to playing the Giants this Saturday, we will work to further refine our game, in what is definitely a winnable fixture. We hope to have your support this weekend.

Best on: Jorjah Chamra
