Round 8: Macedon V Romsey - A Grade

Round 8: Macedon V Romsey - A Grade

Macedon (65) V Romsey (21)

We had a game plan and we executed it as well as we could have in the second half and considering the team was umpired and not so much the game, i feel that we adjusted reasonably well and did the best that we could.

We got out to a strong start applying full court pressure and forcing Romsey to turn over the ball. Although at times we were put out of play for contesting the ball, the one on one pressure gave Romsey very little options and they had to pass the ball around, giving us time to intercept. Our goalers were delivered the ball predominately through our WA and they converted 16 of the 21 attempts at goal. Romsey were starved of ball scoring just the 3 goals until the last 2 minutes of the game, when they scored the last 3 of the quarter.

The second quarter we maintained focus and continued with the task at hand. We didn’t need to change too much about what we were doing except recognise the option right in front of us. Romsey continued to throw bad passes but they did start applying more defensive pressure taking 5 gains and 3 intercepts from our attacking end. Something we need to address is the 7 missed goals and 1 rebound recovery. Romsey’s tall goal keeper had 5 rebounds and 3 gains in this quarter becoming the most dominant Romsey player on court.. We doubled Romsey 6 to 12 but the style of game we played in this quarter was not following our game plan. 28 -12.

Changes were made in the 3rd quarter in our attack end with Ciara going into GA, Karlee into WA, Madi on into C. Our assists did a complete 360 with every attacker assisting our goalers. Their circle defenders were kept quiet and the goaling was shared between Ciara and Chloe. We shot 16 out of 21, matching our first quarter score. Defensively Janelle played WD and Beck played GD with Katie in the back. We kept them to their lowest score of just 3 goals with strong circle defence and possibly even a lift (?). They were deprived of feeds and when the ball did make their goal circle they were inaccurate due to the pressure. A full team performance brought us closer to our goal 44 -15.

Another change in the last quarter with Beck moving back to GK, Janelle out front and Hayley back into a familiar WD. Everything played out the way the 3rd quarter did. Solid team defence depriving Romsey of ball, all 4 attackers sharing the load on assists and our most accurate goaling quarter with only 4 misses. We had our best scoring quarter with 21 goals and Romsey continued their 6 goal a quarter score. A solid win 65 -21, keeping us in the mix for a top 4 place.

Best on court goes to  Janelle Tate
