Our newly formed 19s netball team only had the one training session together before stepping out on court against Riddell.
The girls came out with a spark and clean play in the first quarter. Abby and Beth linked well in goals, using ball speed and their holds to their advantage. This quarter showed the potential this group has with more training sessions together and some more fitness to come. We trailed by two at quarter time.
In the second quarter, Izzy H stuck tight and helped bring the ball down the court. We seemed to lose our grip on the scoreline in this quarter.
Throughout the third quarter we wasted more opportunities and found it hard to get ourselves under the post. Matchplay errors added up and Riddell were adding goals with ease.
In the last quarter, we tried some different combinations, however it had little effect as our players ran out of steam. Georgie was a tireless workhorse in the Centre position, at times covering the workload of others too.
All in all, a decent starting point for the season – which will see combinations, fitness and game play improve in the future to further challenge our opponents.
