Round 4: Macedon V Wallan - A Grade

Macedon (27) V Wallan (31)

We didn’t start the first quarter too well with Wallan taking a 4 -1 lead off the back of some poor goaling from our goalers, but the fight kicked in and we shot 4 in a row to take the lead.

Strong defensive whole court pressure combined with a tight one-on-one circle defence got us another 3 goals and we took a 1 point lead heading into the 2nd quarter.

Our mid court put Wallan under some pressure early in the 2nd quarter forcing their WA and GA to turn
over ball on 7 occasions.

Hayley in WD was there to pick up the scrap and drive that ball deep down into our
attack end. Although our inaccurate shooting continued and their GK cleaned up 4 balls, we still managed to work the ball back into our attack and give our goalers more opportunity.

We finished the quarter with a 3 goal run putting Macedon ahead by 3 goals.

Knowing that we had been under performing in our 3rd quarter, Macedon took to the court with clear instructions to push ahead and extend the 3 goal lead. However, these instructions were quickly forgotten.

Wallan were smart with the ball and only turned over the ball 3 times in 15 minutes. Their C recovered 4 and their GK 5, giving Wallan 9 more opportunities at goal and with every attacker sharing the feed, we were left
chasing a 5 goal run.

A 4 goal run added to their quarter score of 12 and our low scoring of 6. We were
down by 3 heading into the last quarter.

The last quarter kicked off very slow but Macedon made sure that we still fought to the end. We shot 3 goals and brought the score line back to one, but basic errors from all our attackers at different stages in the
middle half of the last quarter proved to be too costly.

Defensively Wallan players were kept very quiet but the intimidating height of the GK alone allowed her to
recover 4 balls in our goal ring. We just didn’t keep her busy enough and she was able to dictate our goal
ring from the first whistle.

It was a very low scoring quarter with Wallan shooting at 50% (5/10) but we matched that shooting at 50% (4/ 8). Wallan capitalised and even with the strength of Shanae on Then they scored 3 goals from a handful of our errors. We didn’t maintain a high skill level under pressure again this week and Wallan took a 4 goal win.

Best on court goes to Caitlyn Alifraco
